Established in 1975, the Grimsby Public Art Gallery is a non-profit public art gallery,
featuring exhibitions of contemporary artwork and a wide range of art classes and workshops for
both children and adults, school tours and special events.

The Portfolio

Reporting to the Art Gallery Manager/Curator, the Collections Digitization Specialist will be
responsible for the GPAG Digitization Project. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring high
quality digital images are properly filed and digitized in line with the Gallery\xe2\x80\x99s Digitization Strategy,
updating all digitized records on Past Perfect, and developing a series of content related to the
digitized works for public engagement, including virtual exhibitions, website material, social media
content, and printed material.

Please note this position is subject to grant approval.

The Candidate

As a candidate for this position, you have achieved an undergraduate degree in Art History,
Museum Studies or related field. A certificate in Museum Studies is considered an asset. You
have three (3) years of experience in coordinating complex projects, with experience in database
management and photography/scanning. You have a working knowledge of digital collections
management, museology and museum best practices. You possess strong interpersonal skills
and work well in a collaborative, team-based environment.

The Town of Grimsby offers candidates for this position $21.00 per hour (Band 2, 2023 rates).

Collections Digitization Specialist Community Services \xe2\x80\x93 Grimsby Public Art Gallery



Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Document Digitization (%)

1.1 Plans and coordinates the safe handling of Gallery collection pieces to permit their
careful, detailed and efficient photography or scanning. 1.2 Develop and implement a digitization log and digitized media management protocol
for the project. 1.3 Record information throughout the process in a digitization log, such as errors in
location/labels, missing descriptions, inadequate record entries, supply shortages,
etc. 1.4 Familiarize self with the storage and vault areas of the Gallery to facilitate an easy
and careful digitization process. 1.5 Work closely with the Art Gallery Manager/Curator and Curatorial Assistant to plan
the digitization process. 1.6 Establish and maintain comfortable and collaborative working relationships with other
members of the Gallery team and Town of Grimsby staff. 1.7 Work regularly with the curatorial team and contracted photographer to support the
digitization process (i.e. moving and posing large paintings and objects, making notes
and recommendations for any works that might need preventative conservation). 1.8 Participate in daily and weekly briefings with Gallery staff and convey information and
progress on the project.

2. Other (5%)

2.1 Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, other applicable legislation, Town by-laws, policies,
procedures and guidelines. 2.2 Other related duties, as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

Undergraduate degree in Art History, Museum Studies or related field. \xef\x82\xa7
Certificate in Museum Studies considered an asset.

License, Registration and Training \xef\x82\xa7
Conservation and collections management training considered an asset. \xef\x82\xa7

Valid and unrestricted Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d driver\xe2\x80\x99s license with access to reliable transportation and
be able to travel to various work locations across the Town. \xef\x82\xa7 Police Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) to the satisfaction of the Town.

Experience \xef\x82\xa7
Three (3) years of experience in a related environment or coordinating complex projects. \xef\x82\xa7
Experience with database management and photography or scanning considered an asset.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities \xef\x82\xa7
Working knowledge of digital collections management and handling collection pieces. \xef\x82\xa7
Knowledge of museology and museum best practices. \xef\x82\xa7
Organized with a demonstrated ability to coordinator digital filing and naming systems in a way that is intelligible to others. \xef\x82\xa7
Interpersonal skills and experience with collaborative, team-based work environments. \xef\x82\xa7
Ability to multi-task and move the various components of a complex project forward. \xef\x82\xa7
Ability to track and evaluate various priorities and report back on milestones achieved. \xef\x82\xa7
Advanced computer skills and ability to use various software applications including Microsoft Office Suite and PastPerfect.
