Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE
Manages the work of staff engaged in painting, complete body rebuild, estimating and repairing fleet vehicles in order as it relates to Motor Vehicle Accidents to provide a sufficient number of safe, roadworthy vehicles. Responsible for the work of supervisory and unionized employees engaged in the repair and rebuild of buses, including body, paint, MVA estimating and trim repairs as it pertains to Motor Vehicle Accidents. Provides documented and justified recommendations into the design of new processes. Ensures adequate supply of parts, materials and equipment are readily available to meet fleet vehicle rebuild and repair requirements. Prepares, monitors and controls the budget and the work plan for the MVA Process. Maintains liaison with system personnel and suppliers regarding operating problems, equipment testing and recommends solutions to resolve problems. Prepares a variety of reports and recommendations concerning vehicle rebuild and repair procedures.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manages through supervisors and charge hands, the activities of staff engaged in body repair, painting, complete body rebuild, MVA estimating, repair and trim repairs as it pertains to Motor Vehicle Accidents; oversees and ensures proper repair procedures and standards for body shop activities at all Maintenance garages.
Provides documented and justified recommendations into the design of new processes related to MVA repairs. Ensures procedures are in compliance with the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program, Original Equipment Manufacture and internal policies and time standards.
Ensures that safe work practices are maintained and that staff are aware of Workplace Hazardous Material Information Sheet (WHMIS), environmental, commercial vehicle inspection, WCB and other safety regulations.
Prepares budget, work plan, staffing and equipment submissions for Fleet Overhaul, for review and approval by the Manager, Fleet Overhaul. Assists other Maintenance Managers as required to prepare their work plans as related to MVA and body work; monitors approved budget expenditures; provides quarterly forecasting, oversees MVA reconciliation, Special Work Team assignments and external invoicing; resolves discrepancies and reports on variances.
Provides a sufficient number of safe, roadworthy vehicles to meet system service requirements; develops and adjusts rebuild, repair schedules and staffing levels to ensure system service requirements are maintained.
Investigates and resolves repeat maintenance and repair problems by researching applicable vehicle documents, troubleshooting for possible causes, discussing findings with manufacturers, Technical Support, other transit operations and suppliers. Recommends documented solutions and conducts tests to resolve various problems.
Communicates with internal and external business partners such as Translink Claims, ICBC and third-party insurers for claims captures, claim time limitations and costs of repairs. Work with the garage staff such as Maintenance Management, Planning, Supervisors and Trades staff to ensure best practices are being followed.
Organizes and chairs various meetings as it relates to claims, KPIs, claim submissions and recoveries with stakeholders such as Garage Managers, Planners, Finance, MVA Staff, Translink Claims, Directors etc.
Responsible for overseeing campaign processes relating to mechanical, body, paint and trim initiatives as well as marketing campaigns, advertising and decaling.
Supports the Assistant Manager and the Manger, Fleet Overhaul. Cover absences when required.
Oversees the recruitment, productivity, performance management, attendance, training and development of staff. Supervises the MVA estimators directly.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Trade qualifications in automotive body repair and/or paint or related field. Certificate in Business Management or a combination of related courses and/or relevant experience.
Experience in progressively responsible positions, which include supervisory experience in commercial vehicle, autobody, paint and upholstery work to gain a broad general knowledge.
Five (5) years previous experience plus one (1) year on the job to acquire experience in annual business planning including the preparation and submission of written business cases with the associated payback analysis. This period also allows for developing skills in organizing staff and work, understanding and establishing relationships with other departments, and managing staff and the collective agreement - to ensure - consistency within and between departments.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced knowledge of the principles, theory, concepts, and practices of maintenance.
Advanced communication both written and oral.
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills including negotiations and conflict resolution skills.
Solid leadership skills to provide direction and manage reporting staff.
Excellent prioritizing, organizing and time management skills.
Solid computer skills in standard office tools including word processing and spreadsheet software and use of web-based systems.

The salary for this position ranges from $97,600 - $146,400 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
