The Company:

Our client is a leader in their industry. Due to steady growth and exciting opportunities, they are looking to add an Assistant Controller to the team. This hybrid role is based at their Oakville, Ontario Head Office and requires 2 days/week in the office.

The Role:

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller manages the daily work of the Accounting and Reporting team. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing best practices to ensure the accuracy of the accounting records and efficient external financial reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as well as responsibility for income tax compliance. In addition, the Assistant Controller is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Company\'s accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.

What You bring to the Role:

To be considered for this position, you must be a designated CPA with 7+ years of accounting/financial reporting experience. Extensive hands-on IFRS knowledge and experience is required. You should have strong technical accounting knowledge and be comfortable writing technical accounting memos and working closely with the auditors. Only candidates coming from large public companies in the construction, engineering, mining or manufacturing industries will be considered. Strong ERP experience and strong Excel skills are required.

- Manage the accounting and reporting team to ensure accurate financial statements are prepared in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring deadlines are met
- Ensure that accounting practices are in compliance with Company accounting policies, and procedures and internal controls, while encouraging continuous improvement
- Responsible for preparing accurate and timely quarterly consolidated financial statements and management discussion and analysis documents
- Management of team of four accountants ensuring cross training, mentorship and implementation of development opportunities.
- Oversee technical accounting matters, which requires strong hands-on knowledge of IFRS
- Compliance with income tax and other government filings
- Other responsibilities and matters as assigned by the Controller and/or CFO from time to time

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor\'s Degree in Commerce, Finance and/or Accounting required
- Minimum 7 years\' experience in in accounting/reporting role of a public company reporting under IFRS, including supervision of staff
- CPA designation required
- Strong knowledge of IFRS
- Advanced Excel skills
- Working knowledge of SAP
- Mine industry experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong oral and written communication and analytical skills
- Strong time management skills
- Able to meet tight deadlines
