We have a great opportunity for a full-time Assistant Controller to join our accounting team in Kelowna at our Prospera Place facility! Prospera Place, is one of GSL Group's businesses and home of the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL. This is the first state-of-the-art entertainment facility to be built outside of a major city in North America, and is the main focal point for sports, concerts, culture, business and community activity within the Okanagan. It also includes Manhattan Point Restaurant, and has the location and amenities to provide a complete entertainment experience for any event! This role will assist the Controller in coordinating and overseeing all daily accounting processes, as well as the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes. Day in the Life:
This role will report to the Controller and have a number of accountabilities, including but not exclusive to those listed below:

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Review financial data on a monthly basis and consult with Controller about problems or discrepancies
  • Coordinate internal and external financial audits with the Controller and CFO
  • Establish internal control systems to prevent inaccuracies in financial statements
  • Preparation of annual audit and tax working schedules and reconciliations
  • Preparation of monthly general ledger account and bank reconciliation
  • Preparation and processing of monthly journal entries
  • Assist in the completion of various sales tax remittances, other statutory reporting, and compliance requirements
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of process improvements, along with documenting internal accounting controls and procedures
  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets
  • Assist in preparation of rolling forecasts
  • Review and analyze monthly statements for various companies; with varying levels of operations, including in some cases reviewing and reporting on variances from budgets
  • Preparing and developing additional internal reports for analyzing financial aspects and providing fiscal insight to various entities and projects
  • Assist in managing the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of AP, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, AR, payroll, fixed asset records, and general & entity accounting, etc.
  • Provide support to the accounting team in relation to the resolution of A/R issues and investigating areas of concern
  • Assist Controller in setting priorities for the department
  • Ad-hoc accounting tasks as assigned
Requirements:

  • College or university degree or related certificate/diploma in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • Accounting designation preferred
  • Complete understanding and experience with the full accounting cycle
  • 3-5+ years of accounting experience in diverse financial environment
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks; able to adapt quickly to changing needs, responsibilities, and tasks
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and effectively deal with multiple priorities
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics, Great Plains
  • Advanced Computer skills a must - highly proficient in the use of PowerPoint, Word, Access, Excel, and other Microsoft Office Applications to create documents and reports, etc.
