As the Assistant Controller, Accounting & Finance, you offer strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills to the Accounting & Finance team while bringing our values to life with exemplary leadership and a continuous improvement mindset. In providing oversight to the accounting function for business operations, the key responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Manage the month-end close, managing the AR, AP and the accountants to ensure all entries have been posted, including accruals
  • Liaison with various external stakeholders such as the external auditors, CRA and Statistics Canada
  • Assist with treasury management, including approvals of cheque, EFT and wire processing
  • Supervise and provide leadership to the accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial accounting team
  • Provide financial and variance analysis and reporting
  • Maintain and monitor key finance modules within Oracle - AP, AR, Expenses, and GL
  • Assist with all statutory reporting requirements being met (ex. tax, legal, treasury)
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations on a variety of accounting and tax issues
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls; implement new processes and procedures
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, business, or a related field
  • 5-7 years' post-designation accounting experience
  • 3-5 years' leadership experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and IFRS
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Financials would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic team environment with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated confidence and ability to work independently, think on your feet to resolve issues, and work through situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on providing excellent customer service to internal partners.
  • A flexible and team-focused attitude and a willingness to take on different tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to maintain solid working relationships.
  • A strong desire to learn and grow in a continuously improving environment.
