Columbia Containers is searching for an Accounts Payable Clerk to join our Team!

Summary



Reporting to the Controller, the Accounts Payable Clerk plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and integrity of our financial operations. This role goes beyond transactional AP and offers exposure to month-end and year-end closing, bank reconciliations, AR backup, audits,ERP optimization and other duties as assigned.

This is an excellent opportunity for an AP professional who is detail-oriented, analytical, and interested in learning and personal growth within a stable company, assisting with all aspects of full cycle accounting, while primarily focusing on AP. Responsibilities:



Accounts Payable & Expense Processing



Verify, code, and process high-volume vendor invoices in accordance with company policies and approval workflows Investigate cost variances and unfavorable operating cost trends; follow up with vendors and internal stakeholders until resolved Maintain vendor records, including onboarding, updates, and responding to inquiries Prepare and process weekly and monthly payment runs Monitor AP aging and proactively follow up on overdue balances or discrepancies Review and process employee expense reports for policy compliance

Month-End/Year-End Reporting & Compliance



Reconcile accounts payable sub-ledgers to the general ledger Assist with month-end and year-end close activities Prepare journal entries for bank, credit card, and reconciliations Support audit preparation and respond to auditor requests File statutory returns (GST, PST) and prepare remittances as assigned

Cross-Functional & Process Support



Provide backup support for Accounts Receivable processing when required Prepare and maintain AP process documentation and training materials Provide accounting, reconciliation, and analytical support to other departments as assigned Assist the Controller with system enhancements, automation initiatives, and ad hoc analysis/tasks Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, and accuracy

Qualifications & Experience



Required



Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

OR

equivalent practical experience Minimum 2 years of hands-on Accounts Payable or general accounting experience Strong working knowledge of Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, basic formulas) High attention to detail and accuracy in a deadline-driven environment Strong communication skills and ability to work professionally with vendors and internal teams Technologically savvy Understanding of ERP systems
Assets:

Experience using

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
