1 temporary full-time position for 4 months, intended specifically for students currently enrolled in an accounting post-secondary degree program, commencing in May 2023
The Financial Services Branch provides an integrated and interactive work environment with ongoing opportunities for continuous improvement and feedback. Work varies within the area, allowing the student to be involved in different aspects of public sector finance and being presented with new challenges and learning opportunities in each of those aspects. The Cash Consulting Unit administers financial controls over money handling, imprest funds (that include petty cash, program cash and floats), Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance, and the Expenditure Accountability Framework. Responsibilities Include:
  • Maintain the List of Expenditure Officers under the Expenditure Accountability Framework
  • Participate in petty cash counts and reviews of cash sites
  • Assist the Cash Consulting Unit in the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance Implementation Program
  • Assist with documentation of money handling, imprest funds and/or PCI compliance
  • Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned


Note: This position will be a combination of working from home and on-site working conditions.
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an accounting post-secondary degree program
  • Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, requirements and practices
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships
  • Demonstrate ability to check and record staff movements in maintaining the List of Expenditure Officers with proven attention to detail
  • Demonstrate ability using Google Workspace applications, specifically Google Sheets; Microsoft and Adobe Acrobat for fillable forms
  • Demonstrate ability to conduct analysis, data collection, and identify historical trends with proven attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and with little supervision at times
  • Demonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
