Click Here: The Gibson Way The goal of our Summer Student Program is to develop the leaders of tomorrow by providing meaningful work experiences that allow students to gain valuable industry knowledge from all levels of the organization. The Students will have the opportunity to grow their professional network, give back to the community, and gain real world skills that will enhance their knowledge applicable to their studies.
Interested?
The student will learn about financial reporting and accounting function including but not limited to use of Microsoft Dynamics D365 for preparation of journal entries, assisting with various tasks relating to financial quarter end and assistance with various other special projects in financial reporting and capital accounting areas.
What You\'ll Be Doing

• Understand month end procedures within the accounting team
• Assist in preparation of supporting documents for quarterly reporting
• Assist in variance investigation of anomalies in both monthly and quarterly reporting
• Prepare journal entries utilizing D365
• Prepare account reconciliations and investigate variances for assigned accounts
• Assist in review of monthly corporate expenses and variance analysis
• Assist in preparation of monthly depreciation and select capital related schedules
• Supports special projects relating to accounting and tax data retrieval from various sources (Financial and operational systems)
• Support preparation of surveys for both Canada and US
• May assists with organization and scanning of documents for electronic filing or order recycling of non-record items
• Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures
• May perform other duties as assigned

What You\'ll Bring

• Minimum 2nd year accounting student.
• Demonstrates basic use of MS Office systems, with strong MS Excel skills.
• Basic knowledge of accounting concepts.
• Demonstrates excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, with a positive can-do attitude.

Working Conditions

• Office based work environment.
• Gibson has a hybrid work environment for Calgary-based employees (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we work from the Calgary Head Office). On Monday and Friday, work can be done remotely.
