Youth Engagement Worker



JOB OVERVIEW:



The youth engagement worker will be responsible to provide support and encouragement via after school and weekend programming to high risk children and youth, through interacting with fun, positive, activities. This includes sports and recreational games, arts, cooking classes, land based activities and much more. Must be available evenings & weekends.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



Assist in the planning, supervision, facilitating and participation of engagement activities. Transporting children to and from daily activities Developing a safe and welcoming environment that promotes children to grow in their self confidence and identity. Maintain and nurture strong supportive relationships with children and youth. Ensure reports and log books are completed in a timely manner. Maintaining confidential records Working with other organizations, such as schools, community groups Planning and prepping meals for and with the participants

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



To be able to provide and relay cultural awareness and information to the children in a way they can relate and understand. Strong communication skills with people of all age groups. Supervisory abilities in various size groups of children. Effective conflict resolution and advocacy skills when needed. Assist in meeting the individualized needs for each child and youth within a variety of sensitive issues such as family dynamics, and crisis situations. Guide children in personal success such as behavioural growth through direct engagement, goal setting and self evaluation. Help boost children's self image through self discovery, interaction with all ages and social opportunities. Strong team player. Ability to be flexible. Ability to access the children's interests to plan and facilitate a variety of activities including but not limited to art, sports, games, cooking, music, and land based learning, A successful candidate will be required to participate in activities doing them alongside the children.

Preferred but not required



Knowledge of Traditional aboriginal games Knowledge in Traditional Indigenous Arts such as Singing, Dancing or Drumming. Knowledge of Cree or Dene Language Cooking & meal planning experience

REQUIREMENTS:



Valid CPIC with Vulnerable Sector check Valid Driver's License with Drivers Abstract Min 2 years experience working with children Valid First Aid Level C Education in Child Development, Social Work or a related field preferred but not required.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00-$25.00 per hour

Schedule:

8 hour shift Evening shift Weekends as needed

Prince Albert, SK: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Work Location: In person
