Working for Augustana Campus




The Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta is located on Treaty Six territory in the City of Camrose, 90 kilometres southeast of Edmonton. Embedded in rural Alberta, the campus is home to approximately 900 students and offers bachelor's and master's degree programs offered by the U of A's Augustana Faculty and the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, respectively. The campus provides a distinctive learning experience characterized by close student-faculty relationships and numerous opportunities for student participation in athletics, clubs and campus organizations. Students benefit from the advantages of a small campus while earning a degree from one of Canada's leading universities.



Student Academic Services collaborates with university-wide services to support the academic needs of students on Augustana Campus. The office houses various student services and supports, with staff collectively working to support students' academic journeys by connecting them to opportunities for exploration and success.

Position




Reporting to the Manager, Work Integrated Learning & Student Support, this position will be a key contributor to the creation of a new co-operative education program offered by the Augustana Faculty. Under the strategic and administrative oversight of the Manager, Work Integrated Learning & Student Support, this position will develop and operate the Augustana Co-operative Education (ACE) program, including the acquisition and sustaining of Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Canada (CEWIL) certified status for the program at Augustana.


This position will work with students and employers in a twofold capacity. Working within a Student Academic Services portfolio, the position will be responsible for ACE program promotion, advising students about work experience (both co-op and individual work terms), admitting students into the program(s), supporting students through the work search process (career coaching, resume reviews, interview preparation, etc.) by coordinating access to career education and U of A Career Centre resources (like supporting the Career Peer Educator program's student staff at the Augustana Campus), as well as following the progress of students closely during work terms (e.g. Canvas learning, site visits and evaluations). The position will be the ongoing contact for both the students and employers throughout the work experience term(s). To support the establishment, growth, and ongoing development of the ACE program, some evening and weekend work and travel will be required.


Working with employers, this position will foster new relationships with prospective employers, which they will maintain to support the growth of the ACE program, and explore the expansion of existing relationships between the Augustana Faculty and partners to create high-quality, paid, diverse employment opportunities. This includes promoting ACE to the employers, assisting them in posting and advertising their work experience opportunities, conducting site visits and managing student evaluations. The Work Integrated Learning Coordinator also works closely with the U of A Career Centre Employer Relations team to coordinate job postings, Employer Information Sessions and interviews (as required).


Additionally, the position will lead and assist with other career development initiatives at the Augustana Campus, including the delivery of career-related programming and advising to meet the needs of the Augustana campus community. Examples include the Augustana Networking Night, Core co-curricular programming, Augustana's presence at career fairs and recruitment events, career development workshops, Rapid Resume or Portfolio Reviews.

Duties



Supports the development an operation of the Augustana Co-operative Education (ACE) program. Promotes the ACE program to students. Supports the student and employer experiences and administrative tasks associated with the Augustana Co-operative Education (ACE) program. Identify, develop relationships, and liaise with employers. Facilitate and contribute to Augustana Career Development and Undergraduate Student Support.

Minimum Qualifications



An undergraduate degree; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. 2-3 years of progressive work experience that demonstrates a customer service focus in delivering a product, project or service to the organization. 2-3 years of experience delivering career education is required. Valid Driver's License and clean driving abstract required to conduct site visit.

Preferred Qualifications



Experience in cooperative education and/or on-campus recruiting would be an asset. Demonstrated ability to build and foster relationships, to work collegially with various stakeholders (within and outside of the campus community), and to plan and implement programming. Strong commitment to student service and the value of liberal arts education. Excellent communication skills (written and oral, including public speaking and facilitation skills). Proven multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills. Strong attention to detail with the ability to demonstrate initiative in project planning and program delivery. Ability to problem solve, demonstrated critical thinking related to service/program design and delivery. Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing training in administrative and technical skills (e.g. database and/or software, marketing and communication strategies, emerging practices in experiential learning and career management). Knowledge of the university environment (preferably the University of Alberta).
