We are seeking an experienced and dedicated
Winter Maintenance Camp Supervisor
to lead operations at our
York Region, Vaughan
snow plow camp. Each camp consists of
80-120 DZ/AZ licensed drivers and support staff
. Supervisory responsibilities are shared between
two Camp Supervisors
, who split shifts during extended winter events and report directly to the
Winter Maintenance Operations Manager
.
Role Overview
The Winter Maintenance Camp Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the
safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of winter operations
within their assigned camp. Working closely with a co-supervisor, this role covers both the
administrative and operational functions
of the camp, including staffing, dispatching, equipment readiness, compliance, and reporting.
Acting as a
primary liaison with York Region supervisors and patrollers
, the Supervisor ensures that plowing, salting, and snow/ice control operations are delivered to municipal performance standards while managing large crews under demanding conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Management
Oversee
80-120 DZ/AZ snow plow drivers
, Camp Coordinators, subcontractors, and yard staff.
Share leadership responsibilities with a co-supervisor, splitting shifts to provide continuous coverage during extended winter events.
Manage tandem and triaxle plows, brine trucks, loaders, and support equipment to ensure roads are cleared to York Region standards.
Ensure all personnel, equipment, and materials are ready to commence operations within one hour of notification.
Perform quality control inspections during events and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
Operational Readiness & Execution
Maintain 24/7 operational readiness throughout the winter season in partnership with a co-supervisor.
Coordinate dispatch, scheduling, and route assignments for drivers.
Monitor weather forecasts, GPS tracking, and video systems to adjust resources as needed.
Oversee yard logistics, including salt, brine, fuel, calibrations, and preventative maintenance of trucks and equipment.
Ensure sufficient replacement staff and operators are available for continuous service.
Administrative & Compliance Oversight
Ensure accurate and timely completion of all documentation: pre-trip inspections, salt and route sheets, fleet logs, calibration reports, hours of service, payroll logs, subcontractor invoices, and York Region submissions.
Lead Health & Safety initiatives, including toolbox talks, incident reporting, and OHSA compliance.
Support onboarding, training, and evaluation of new drivers and subcontractors.
Report damages, breakdowns, and anomalies to York Region and company leadership promptly.
Communication & Liaison
Act as a primary point of contact with York Region supervisors and patrollers.
Provide timely updates and event reporting to municipal representatives and the Winter Maintenance Operations Manager.
Ensure strong two-way communication with drivers, coordinators, and mechanics during events.
Remain accessible by phone during assigned shifts throughout the contract period.
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of experience supervising
winter maintenance operations, trucking, or construction crews
.
Strong knowledge of winter operations, snow and ice control equipment, and Health & Safety protocols.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage large crews under time-sensitive, high-pressure conditions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, File Explorer) -
advanced Excel skills required
.
Familiarity with municipal contracts, reporting systems, GPS/video monitoring, and compliance procedures.
DZ or AZ driver's license an asset (not required, but beneficial).
