Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual winter position of Emera Oval Supervisor in Parks & Recreation.

The Emera Oval Supervisor will assist the Community Recreation Coordinator with daily supervision of programs and events held at the Oval. The Supervisor will be managing program staff and volunteers for the delivery of daily skating programs and events held at the Oval. The Supervisor will ensure participants have a safe and enjoyable experience during the wide variety of activities and events held at the Oval.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with the implementation of programs, public skating sessions, major and weekly special events and festival events held at the Oval;
Assists in the management and supervision of front-line staff, including skating instructors and program staff working at the Oval;
Manages the assessment of work priorities and actions during daily program activities;
Assists with training, direction, supervision and monitoring;
Conducts on-site meetings and team building sessions with team members;
Liaises with Oval maintenance staff to ensure the safe operation and delivery of programs and participants;
Ensures the proper and safe use of equipment and skating aids to be used for skating programs and events at the Oval.
Maintains inventory of assets at the Oval.
Provides excellent customer service and support to participants, on-site staff, volunteers, community organizations and events;
Completes daily reports, statistics and documentation of daily activities, accidents and incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Good knowledge and experience of inclusive recreation programming, human resource management principles, program supervision (outdoor), special event delivery and occupational health and safety regulations;
Two (2) years' supervisory experience and managing staff in Recreation/Special Events.
Have had one season working as a winter skate monitor.
Proficient and confident ice skater
Have or are willing to obtain Intermediate First Aid, CPR Level B or be willing to obtain by December 20, 2025.
Must be willing to attend all orientations/training sessions.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated understanding of outdoor recreation programs and special event delivery
Demonstrated understanding of facility management
Ability to provide leadership, direction, management and support to a large complement of staff
Ability to supervise and manage multiple activities and events
Ability to provide risk management for outdoor recreation programming
Has stamina to skate and work in various weather conditions
Applicant must have current certification in Intermediate First Aid, CPR Level B (CSA Basic)
Applicants must complete screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check
Applicants must be willing to obtain WHMIS training
Applicants must be willing to attend all orientations/training sessions
Security Clearance Requirements:
Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note -
Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer's discretion.

WORK STATUS:
Seasonal, December 5, 2025 - up to March 31, 2026
HOURS OF WORK:
Number of weeks and hours per week will depend on the Oval operational schedule and participant levels. The Oval may be closed or staff hours reduced due to weather or poor conditions, constructions delays, site damage, low participation levels and/or special events. Supervisor will not be paid if attendance at work is not required due to the above noted conditions.
SALARY:
Non Union, $21.50 per/hour (plus 4% vacation)
