Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for several casual positions of Winter Emera Oval Duty Supervisor in the Recreation Programming division of Parks & Recreation.

The Duty Supervisor will assist the Community Recreation Coordinator with daily supervision of programs and events held at the Emera Oval. The Duty Supervisor will oversee casual staff, including supervisors, skating instructors, and skate sharpeners for the delivery of daily skating programs and events held at the Emera Oval. The Duty Supervisor will ensure participants have a safe and enjoyable experience during the wide variety of activities and events held at the Emera Oval.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
On-site evenings and weekends to assist with delay and closure decisions (in conjunction with the ice maintenance team). Will also assist with early morning delays/closures.
Supervises Monitors and Supervisors when the CRC is not on site
Provides customer service such as responding to emails, phone-in inquiries, and on-site participants
Assesses customer concerns and makes recommendations to the Community Recreation Coordinator as required
Collects and inputs data such as attendance stats and other filing
Assists with training and coaching casual staff
Assists with setting staffing schedules and finding replacements
Assists with the onboarding of new hires
Prepares part-time staff daily time sheets and submits to CRC
Responds and follows up on inquiries from the public
Assists with maintaining and updating facility schedule for SkateHRM webpage and Google Calendar
Report facility maintenance issues to the CRC (or designate)
Updates facility voicemail
Programs the facility lighting as needed
Assists with the Equipment Loan operations
Completes incident/accident reports, verifies staff reports for accuracy
Maintains uniform and other supply inventories
Assigns uniforms and maintains records
Signs out and manages uniform return, cleaning, and storage
Requests Protection of Property Act, when necessary, in consultation with CRC
May perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Grade 12 education or equivalent
Minimum three years' experience working at the Emera Oval, with at least one Winter season in a supervisor role
Minimum one year of experience in a leadership position
Must be a proficient skater
Must have current certification in Intermediate First Aid, CPR Level B or willing to obtain by December 20, 2025.
Must be willing to obtain WHMIS training
Must be willing to attend all orientations/training sessions
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated understanding of outdoor recreation programs and special event delivery
Demonstrated understanding of facility management
Ability to provide leadership, direction, management and support to a large complement of staff
Ability to supervise and manage multiple activities and events
Ability to provide risk management for outdoor recreation programming
Has stamina to skate and work in various weather conditions
Proficient knowledge of computers and office software applications (i.e., Word, Google Calendar, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
Security Clearance Requirements:

- Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer's discretion.

HOURS OF WORK:
Seasonal, December to March. The number of weeks and hours per week will depend on the Oval's operational schedule and participant levels. The Oval may be closed, or staff hours reduced due to weather or poor conditions, construction delays, site damage, and/or low participation levels. Skating Monitors will not be paid if attendance at work is not required due to the above noted conditions.
SALARY:
$22.50 per hour (non-union)
