What You'll Be Doing

You will be joining CIBC Private Wealth Management as a senior member of the Wealth Planning Group.

As an experienced wealth planner, you will support advisors across CIBC Private Wealth in advising high net worth clients and families through thoughtful financial planning. Your plans will help them navigate the complexities of their wealth and ultimately help them achieve their ambitions.

The needs of a HNW client will draw on your experience and knowledge in the areas of:

  • Tax considerations & optimization
  • Cross boarder strategies
  • Risk management
  • Estate & legacy planning
  • Philanthropic intentions
  • Business succession & continuity
  • Budgeting & Goal planning
  • Family governance & advising
This role will also draw on your experience as an industry expert and leader in the wealth management community.

In efforts to build the brand you will be called upon to share your perspectives and insights at engagements across various events, channels, & mediums both internally and externally.

By having high visibility through out the Manitoba & Saskatchewan region you will cultivate local relationships with clients and advisors in efforts to build advocates, increase share of wallet and attract new relationships.

How You'll Succeed

You are an accredited financial planner and seasoned professional with 10 or more years of experience planning in the HNW segment. You are comfortable managing complex engagements and have a broad base of experience and knowledge to draw on.

You recognize needs for additional expertise and collaborate well with partners & professionals to advise, advance, and implement plans.

Client duty and service are hallmarks of your practice and fuel your purpose.

You are a strategic partner to advisors and are committed to helping deliver an exceptional client experience, growing the business, and delivering an integrated wealth management service.

You are organized and are comfortable juggling multiple engagements while staying mindful of commitments & deadlines.

Key Accountabilities

Business Growth and Revenue:
  • Increase the acquisition, retention and consolidation of new and existing HNW and UHNW client relationships across CIBC by:
  • Preparing comprehensive financial plans or consultation as appropriate for existing and prospective client's with minimum investable assets of $5 million and/or $25 million in net worth.
  • Providing highly specialized advice on a broad range of complex financial planning needs
  • Offering expertise in strategies and solutions, incorporating investment solutions, retirement planning, life & wealth protection, milestones, purchases planning, business succession planning and tax planning
  • Work proactively with Advisors across CIBC to lead the development of an integrated financial plan for new and existing HNW clients
  • Assemble a multi-disciplined team to develop innovative domestic and global solutions for the client's personal and business needs (banking, investing, estate and trust planning, tax minimization, education, business valuation, sale of a business, charitable giving etc.)
  • Lead team-based presentations of the recommendations to the client, overcoming objections, answering questions and gaining client agreement to financial solutions
  • Contribute to business growth through delivery of comprehensive & compelling financial plans.
  • Work with the client's external advisors as appropriate (i.e. lawyers and accountants) to obtain or validate information required to support the development/implementation of recommendations.
  • Build and sustain a network of experts (lawyers, accountants, tax experts, etc.) who can be leveraged to support the development of complex financial plans and identify potential referral sources for clients.
  • Keep up-to-date with the overall economic and financial environment, current events, market conditions, trends, and changes to legislation and product platforms in an area that is subject to frequent change. This includes analyzing information/trends and applying it to individual client needs.
Business Development Activities
  • Play an active role in the acquisition and retention of High Net Worth relationships through proactive networking.
  • Lead business development initiatives in conjunction with other advisors
  • Facilitate client and staff workshops/seminars on various financial planning topics.
  • Maintain a high profile for financial planning within CIBC and outside the financial community

Who You Are
  • 10+ years of expert financial planning experience and proven success in developing comprehensive financial plans for HNW clients with $5+ million in investable assets
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship building skills required to build strong, positive, trusting advisor and client relationships
  • Working knowledge of business/finance/economics/tax acquired through the combination of a university degree within a related field, and/or relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge in the following areas: tax, investment management, financial planning, law, trust, credit, commercial banking, international private banking and private banking
  • Excellent influential/interviewing/communication/relationship management skills with proven ability to build life-long client relationships
  • Strong organization and time management skills to effectively manage priorities and meet business/client requirements within tight deadlines/constraints
  • Strong confidence, customer service orientation and effective when interacting with wealth clients and their advisors
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge, demonstrate competence, and add value to the client relationships
  • Strong business development skills to identify opportunities and develop business plans
  • Excellent time and self-management and organizational skills sufficient to meet multiple/ tight deadlines in a high pressure environment
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills to support partners in implementing recommendations
  • In depth risk management skills sufficient to identify potential impacts/risks and take appropriate action
  • Superior communication skills: writing skills sufficient to prepare proposals and presentation/seminar materials
  • Working proficiency with common computer applications
  • Working knowledge of financial planning software
  • Post-secondary education preferably with a relevant focus
  • Accredited Certified Financial Planning (CFP) designation (or IQPF in Quebec)
  • CPA,CA,LLB, preferred, TEP, FEA desirable
