With over 25 years of experience in cultivating entertainment, education and empowerment in our communities, we want to expand our team to continue our mission. Here's where you come in: we're looking for dynamic, outspoken Board Members who share our passion for making a difference and can bring a strategic mindset that'll help drive us towards our goals. This role will involve active collaboration, decisiveness and the ability to be holistically impartial and outspoken in the organization's growth. Board members will work closely with the rest of the board to support this.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Know the organization's mission, policies, programs, and needs as well as understand its collective purpose
Faithfully read and understand the organization's financial statements and board materials in advance of meetings
Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
Fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to achieve the organization's mission
Help identify professional connections that can benefit the organization's fundraising and reputational standing, and influence public policy
Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
Participate fully in one or more committees or task forces
Engage in learning opportunities to better understand the community we serve
Respect the experiences of all who bring their voices and lived experiences into the boardroom and the organization
Uphold the legal duties and laws regarding nonprofit governance
Follow the organization's bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization
QUALIFICATIONS AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Leadership, visioning and decision-making skills
Administration & Operational lenses and knowledge
Marketing, PR, fundraising, or grant writing knowledge is an asset
Highly self-motivated team player
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Critical reading and thinking skills
A growth mindset
We are interested in having Board Members from different backgrounds, including, but not limited to: Advocacy, Education, Mental Health, Arts Administration, Inclusive Practices/Social Justice, Truth and Reconciliation, Anti Racism, Policy, Legal etc.* Experience in the non-profit or charitable sector, specifically within the realm of arts and youth is an asset
TIMELINE AND COMMITMENT:
Minimum 2 year commitment, including 3 month provisional period
Attend 4 Board Meetings within the Year
Attend an Annual Strategic Planning Weekend and the Annual General Meeting of members AGM
2-5 hours per week (qualitative and adhoc)

About Culture Shock Canada Community Programs:
Through structured Hip Hop dance-based education and enrichment programs for youth, Culture Shock Canada (CSC) addresses issues of social isolation & self-esteem, and builds relational, teamwork, and leadership skills. These programs provide enriching self-esteem building activities, education in relational, teamwork and leadership skills, as well as a platform for practicing those skills, developing social bonds, and successfully working towards a challenging long-term goal with peers. This contributes to greater resilience; helping youth to reach their full potential.
CSC offers structured, after-school, Hip Hop dance programs for children and youth ages 6-18 in partnership with local community centers, YMCA's, Boys and Girls Clubs, schools, and other child and youth organizations (Community Partner Organizations). Activities take place on location of the Community Partner Organizations in a safe and positive environment. They are run by qualified adult instructors that have received youth and dance teacher training through CSC.
