The Opportunity

Reporting to the Regional Senior Vice President, CWB's Vice President (VP) & Market Lead provides leadership to the banking centre and district leaders in the West Fraser Valley, encompassing three banking centre locations in Surrey and Langley, British Columbia. The position provides leadership and strategic direction to the team in the areas of client acquisition, origination of credit, market positioning, industry segment targets, product development, and profitability. The role requires a leader who can develop strong frontline client relationships and people leadership practices in one of the fastest growing markets in the province, supporting the development of the CWB brand across the broader diversified commercial segments. The VP & Market Lead is an inspirational leader, leading the development, growth, and profitability of the market while driving business development activities. The position works collaboratively with a team of district and banking centre leaders while providing leadership to approximately 65 indirect reports.

Key focuses

Develop strong working relationships and collaborate with internal peers, including leaders from lines of business such as Wealth, Real Estate, Equipment Financing, and Specialty Financing.

Build effective relationships with the departments of People & Culture, Information Services, Treasury, Premises, Credit Risk Management, Credit Analytics, Internal Audit, Strategy, Communications and Legal, as well as the Client Solutions leadership team.

Aim to create a thriving culture that encourages diversity of thought, with an emphasis on developing unique solutions reflective of CWB's drive for excellence.

Demonstrate an engaging leadership style while remaining accountable for the development of long-lasting partnerships with clients and of their people and teams.

Ensure and support full-service client acquisition strategies and tactics across commercial and personal segments, with a focus on commercial clients.

Understand the organization's long-term vision and strategic direction, creating a link to a differentiated value proposition, direction, and priorities of the team.

Monitoring the lending culture in terms of risk tolerance, loan structure, pricing and fees.

Developing and maintaining an excellent understanding of the key customers/target industries to ensure that their needs are being met.

Ensuring regular reviews are carried out with clients to ensure excellent customer service and developing future improvements/services for the clients.

Representing the company externally (e.g., at networking events, conferences, and exhibitions) to enhance and strengthen CWB's profile and optimize all business development opportunities.

Ensuring the team is consistently meeting or ideally exceeding client expectations.

Qualifications & Competencies

The ideal candidate is a seasoned banking professional with strong commercial acumen with a proven track record of building successful, long-term relationships with key clients across various industries. They will have 10-15 years of experience including large scale team leadership, management, credit, and structuring experience, as well as an undergraduate degree in business, finance, commerce, or a related field. Designations or certificates are also beneficial. The ideal VP & Market Lead, West Fraser Valley demonstrates the capacity to initiate and implement a strategic business plan, as well as the ability to seize opportunities for growth as they appear. They will have a record of proven analytical skills in assessing risk and a sound understanding of risk management. They will have a strong knowledge of fiscal management and prudence, business finance, capital funding, contracts, and partnerships, which can be utilized across all stages of a business' growth, from an entrepreneurial start up to established and complex organizations. In addition to these qualifications, the VP & Market Lead, West Fraser Valley brings core competencies in written, verbal, and virtual communication; team leadership; relationship building; and fostering a positive and thriving culture that encourages diversity of thought.
