Job Description

In the leadership position of Vice President, Commercial - Saskatchewan and Manitoba, you will represent Westland to clients, prospects and insurance partners and drive profitable Commercial growth within Saskatchewan (SK) and Manitoba (MB). You will bring together expert business acumen, strong leadership skills, a growth mindset and deep technical expertise to support Westland's strategic vision and to achieve our Commercial goals for SK and MB.

This role is accountable for all aspects of Commercial business plan and its execution for Saskatchewan and Manitoba and will work closely with the VP Prairies Personal Lines for SK and MB.

This role will also work closely with the Mergers & Acquisitions team and newly acquired businesses on their successful transition and integration into Westland. Westland entered SK and MB in 2019 and now has over 40 locations and over 100 Commercial employees.

Responsibilities

  • Anticipates, collaborates, and contributes to building and executing Westland's strategic plan.
  • Leads development of the annual business plan for Commercial in SK and MB and holds accountability for its execution.
  • Builds a sales, service and client advisory culture to deliver a consistently exceptional client experience.
  • Develops long term client relationships.
  • Drives sales and profitable revenue growth to achieve the annual SK and MB business plans.
  • Develops employee career opportunities based on Westland's needs and employees' career aspirations, talents and interests.
  • Ensures team and individual goals are set and that performance coaching and feedback is provided consistently.
  • Reviews, monitors and reports on results and key performance metrics and implements action to amplify successes and correct deficiencies.
  • Ensuring the segregation of blended books (personal and commercial) which will help foster our movement to defined small business, mid-market, and agriculture teams.
  • Drive consistency with sales processes and deliverables to clients including the total insurance offerings.
  • Reinforces the Commercial structure in Manitoba and builds the same framework in SK as a priority deliverable.
  • Identifies and develops strategies related to competitive, environmental and industry trends that may impact marketing position and member satisfaction; sets direction; focuses resources and executes plans to develop and grow the business.
  • Ensures the successful integration of acquired teams and clients and maintains regular contact with and provides support to leaders of acquired brokerages
  • Fosters strong relationships with Westland's key industry partners, primarily our insurance providers
  • Maintains a high level of current industry knowledge and actively participates in professional industry associations such as Insurance Brokers Associations, staying at the forefront of our profession.
  • Travel as required
Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of senior leadership
  • Minimum 10 years of front-line insurance industry sales & service management
  • University or College degree
  • Experience managing business and / or cultural transformation projects
  • Experience leading the enhancement of client service excellence
  • Strong ability to manage change
  • Experience in contributing to strategic direction and implementing plans to achieve overall revenue, profit, and employee engagement goals
  • Experience collaborating with various business leaders and problem solving
  • Motivated to roll up your sleeves in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal and presentation/public speaking
  • Experience mentoring and developing business leaders
  • Excellent business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Experience with mergers & acquisitions an asset
  • Preference for a Level 3 General Insurance License
  • Industry designation preferred (CAIB, CIP, FCIP)
