The Senior Vice-President, Commercial and Wealth Credit Risk is responsible for the adjudication of credit risk to the following Canadian businesses:

Commercial, Mid-Market & Independent Business

Commercial Real Estate Credit

Private Wealth Management business in Canada

Innovation Banking

The role is responsible for adjudication processes and oversight, the measurement, monitoring and control of credit risk within CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s Risk Appetite, and provision of independent, adjudication and oversight of the management of credit risk in CIBC\'s portfolios. The position oversees a team of adjudicators located in offices across Canada.

What You\xe2\x80\x99ll be Doing

Risk Management Oversight

Initial and ongoing credit approvals and risk rating assignments within CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s Risk Appetite.

Annual review of portfolio credits to include timely revisions to risk ratings and stipulation of follow-up action plans to existing or potential watch list credits.

Implementation and operationalization of credit risk management policies with respect to the Real Estate portfolio, including:

Leading business process changes and re-engineering strategies that impact adjudication units.

Developing and implementing effective compliance tracking processes enabling timely identification and resolution of accounts.

Proactively ensuring that risk-rating processes are adhered to on a timely basis.

Compliance and Governance

Annual review of and ongoing compliance with credit risk management policies (e.g., concentration limits with respect to obligor, industry, product, geography and underwriting).

Ensure all internal and external credit risk compliance and corporate governance issues are resolved.

Complete timely and accurate compliance / governance reporting.

Ensure credit risk initiatives and activities meet all internal and external governance requirements and within CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s Risk Appetite.

Ensure Risk Management adherence to the Reputation and Legal Risks Policy and Procedures.

Execution and Delivery

Position the adjudication groups with the necessary skills, competencies and attributes to enable functional execution as a high performance team in their specific business streams.

Build, develop and lead a cutting edge team to fulfill the team\xe2\x80\x99s mandate to ensure appropriate workforce management and succession planning strategies are implemented and maintained to ensure the highest standard of adjudication expertise and performance to meet the needs of originators and the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s customers.

Leading and negotiating the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive Service Level Agreement with the origination and product groups that reflects the business goals of each specific area and enhances the overall performance of the credit portfolios and the credit management policies of CIBC.

Ensuring the development and maintenance of defined management reporting to ensure individual business leaders are informed regarding the performance of their portfolios and corrective actions are implemented as needed.

Ongoing and specific quarterly reporting and interaction with regulators and auditors, as required.

Participation in key business and corporate governance processes related to credit and other risk management activities such as membership in Credit Committee, Post Mortem Review Committee, as well as representation on credit business underwriting / deal committees as required.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

Initiate, foster and maintain ongoing dialogue and partnership with key industry stakeholders, including small business, agriculture, professional associations and risk management professionals and other financial institutions.

Effective representation of CIBC relative to industry associations.

Keep abreast of regulatory developments related to scope of role.

Provide leadership and mentorship not only within risk management but also across the organization.

What We\xe2\x80\x99re Looking For

Extensive successful business experience with particular emphasis on banking activities such as corporate finance, commercial banking, and credit and market risk management.

Sound knowledge of the Canadian financial institutions and their competitive environment.

Excellent planning, analytic and administrative skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills appropriate for presentations to senior executives.

Cooperative entrepreneurial team player with mature judgment, strong interpersonal skills and original approaches to problem resolution.

Sound knowledge of current regulations and guidelines affecting federally regulated financial institutions.

Deep understanding of the regulatory environment.

Strong partnership behaviour including ability to constructively represent contrary views.

Decision making under pressure; an ability to assimilate and interpret analyses and trends to reach conclusions regarding the type and magnitude of risk associated with various industry segments, geographic regions and products.

Sound people management and leadership experience.
