We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic animal care environment, providing essential support in both clinical and administrative functions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in animal handling, veterinary procedures, and front desk operations, ensuring exceptional care and service for our clients and their pets.
Duties
& Responsibilities
Greet and check-in clients and their pets in a friendly and professional manner
Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, respond to client inquiries both online and in person
Fill prescriptions and medications as required
Maintain accurate patient records and update client information in the system
Assist with animal restraint and handling during examinations and procedures, ensuring safety for both animals and staff
Assist veterinarian and staff with various other tasks as needed
Handle financial transactions, including processing payments and providing invoices & certificates
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Reception and Clinic area through the day before, during, and after appointments.
Experience & Requirements
Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic, animal hospital, or shelter is preferred
Knowledge of general Flea/Tick Preventatives and both canine and feline vaccinations is highly preferred
Familiarity with basic restraints and animal handling (for bloodwork & minor procedures) is an asset
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients and team members
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
Proficient computer skills, including experience with veterinary practice management software
Knowledge of veterinary terminology, pet care, and animal physiology necessary for effective support roles would be an asset
Familiarity with aseptic techniques and cleaning duties preferred
Ability to perform front desk duties efficiently while maintaining excellent customer service skills
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and compassion for animals and clients
As a Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service to our clients while assisting in the smooth operation of our clinic. This position requires attention to detail, multitasking abilities, cleaning skills, and a genuine passion for working with animals. Please keep in mind this position is primarily a cleaning and reception position. Answering phones and cleaning in between appointments is of the utmost importance for us as we aim to provide professional and immediate care as much as we can. Please note that this job description is not exhaustive and additional duties may be assigned as needed. It is also a PART TIME Position to cover maternity leave. Hours will typically be from 1:00pm through to 6:00pm as well as anything needed for cleaning after 6pm (typically the latest we stay is 7pm)
