About the OpportunityThe Department of Medicine, Dalhousie University / Nova Scotia Health, is inviting applications for a Stroke / Vascular Neurologist in the Division of Neurology at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia.The Division of Neurology is one of the 15 divisions within the Department of Medicine and provides tertiary care services to patients throughout the Atlantic provinces. The Division supports an active Royal College adult neurology residency training program.
The Stroke Program is based at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital (part of the QEII Health Sciences Centre) and provides 24/7 hyperacute stroke care - including TNK and endovascular thrombectomy - to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. We have an interdisciplinary Acute Stroke Unit with a full complement of evidence-based services and operate a five day-per-week outpatient Neurovascular Clinic. The Stroke Program has an excellent working relationship with Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology and Physiatry and is a member of the Canadian Stroke Consortium Research Group.ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will play an active role in the clinical and academic activities of the Stroke Program at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Clinical duties will include alternating service provision on the Stroke Unit, the Neurovascular Clinic, and the daytime Neurology Emergency Service. Other clinical responsibilities will include participation in night and weekend emergency neurology call (with resident support) and participation in undergraduate and postgraduate neurology teaching. Though primarily a clinical position, there are opportunities for self-generated research projects, clinical trials, and other multidisciplinary research studies.QualificationsCandidates must hold FRCPC (or equivalent) certification in Adult Neurology and must have completed a minimum one-year fellowship in Stroke / Vascular Neurology. Candidates must be eligible for specialty licensure in Nova Scotia.An attractive remuneration package through an alternative funding plan will apply.
