Job Summary

Reporting to Utilities Supervisor, the incumbent will perform duties associated with carrying out preventive maintenance and minor repairs to mechanical systems as required.

Key Responsibilities

Replaces filters on all campus air handling units based on a predetermined schedule Cleans and vacuums air handling units and heating/cooling coils Repairs filter racks, seals leaks in duct work Advises when mechanical problems require the attention of other trades Makes recommendations for upgrading mechanical systems based on best economical judgement Assists other trades people as required Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations Maintains a clean work environment Performs other duties as required

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation and three to five years recent building and maintenance experience required General understanding of the operation and control of air handling units and rotating equipment Completion of Building Service Technician course (or equivalent) preferable Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude preferred Ability to read, interpret and prioritize work orders required Knowledge in the use of microcomputers an asset (in particular Famis) Ability to work comfortably at heights (including personal lifts) and in confined spaces Ability to take direction Reliable and punctual Good communication and organizational skills Knowledge of the tools of the trade Must be willing and able to work overtime, as required Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as University and Government rules and regulations General safety, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection and WHMIS training an asset
