USER ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST, CIOOS (BAND LEVEL 8) School of Ocean Technology Marine Institute (Contractual Position to March 31, 2024)
The Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS) is a national initiative of public, private, and academic institutions to coordinate ocean observing activities and facilitate knowledge sharing to integrate and disseminate high-quality real-time and historical oceanographic data via a web-based platform.
CIOOS is comprised of three Regional Associations and a National Web Presence. The Atlantic Regional Association (CIOOS-Atlantic) provides data management for oceanographic data from the Atlantic Seaboard \xe2\x80\x93 a region spanning the Arctic to the USA, and hosts numerous industry and research activities important to the Canadian economy.
The incumbent will engage with regional data providers and end users to promote the use of CIOOS as a national system for handling ocean data and for providing the information necessary to support scientific research and evidence-based decision making. Identification, development, and maintenance of relationships with stakeholders is an important component of this work. Meaningful and appropriate engagement with Indigenous governments, organizations, and communities will also be required.
CIOOS is currently in its third funding cycle, which began in April 2022. Outcomes for this funding cycle include continued maintenance of CIOOS data infrastructure; integration of additional data sets; and visualizations to help interpret data. This position is an exciting opportunity to provide a lasting contribution to Canada\xe2\x80\x99s ocean observing community and to assist Canada in meeting its national and international commitments.
DUTIES Duties of the individual will include, but are not limited to:
Maintain ongoing communication with end users and data providers
Identify and develop relationships with potential data providers
Explain the role of the Atlantic Regional Association
Explain the benefits of the Atlantic Regional Association
Identify and develop relationships with potential end users
Perform data rescue archaeology
Present at various workshops and meetings
Collaborate with other CIOOS team members to::
Develop a communications plan, including promotional materials
Organize regular meetings for end users and data providers
Provide a channel for feedback from end users and data providers to:
Track feedback from end users and data providers
Prepare reports to document CIOOS activities
Handle scheduling and logistics for data management workshops and training sessions
QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications include:
Minimum undergraduate degree in relevant discipline
Knowledge of the ocean observation community in Atlantic Canada
Some knowledge of the technologies used in the observation of the ocean
Knowledge of the benefits of using ocean observation data in multiple sectors
Experience with developing and implementing communication plans
Experience in organizing meetings
Experience interacting with a wide-spread diverse network
Experience using social media for promotion and communication
Ability to work with a geographically distributed team
Fluency in French and Indigenous languages an asset
While most work will occur during standard daytime working hours, there are occasions where evening or weekend work may be necessary. The incumbent should therefore possess a flexibility in working hours as required by project deadlines and user engagement activities.
SALARY $59,460 - $81,079 per annum (Management and Professional Pay Sale) An upscale hiring step has been applied to this position (Step 8)
