LogisticsJob Title:Energy Delivery Substation Training SupervisorCompany, Department:Nova Scotia Power, Energy DeliveryLocation:Sackville, N.S.Type of Employment:Regular, Full TimeClosing Date:April 11, 2024Reference Number:2024-2768The OpportunityWe are currently looking for a permanent Energy Delivery (ED) Substation Training Supervisor working with our technicians/electricians to join our Regional Operations team. This position will be reporting to the Training Manager, Regional Operations within Energy Delivery.Key elements of this role include:As the Energy Delivery Substation Training Supervisor, you will ensure the safe and effective utilization of human resources and material resources for the provision of excellent electric service to customers in your area. You will ensure Nova Scotia Power\xe2\x80\x99s standards for customer service are met or exceeded by utilizing a skilled workforce to complete operating, maintenance, and construction activities in an efficient and cost-effective manner.As the successful applicant, you will be required to travel & work throughout the province based on the business requirements to ensure the success of the ED Corporate Training Program. You will establish a mutually supportive working relationship with other ED field supervisors, regional and business administration support groups, external business contacts and planning workgroups.You will be responsible for the safety performance of the business unit areas under your influence by following the safety programs, conducting accident investigations, and ensuring that employees work safely, and the public is protected. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.The ED Substation Training Supervisor will maintain good labour relations and employee morale by identifying training and development opportunities; ensure vehicles and tools are properly operated and maintained; maintain a current knowledge of rates, regulations, policies, procedures, practices, standards, and collective agreements. You will assist in the preparation of budgets and financial projections and will implement cost control measures. You must be available for rotational supervisory standby. You must demonstrate your ongoing personal commitment to the Capabilities Development Process.This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.As The Substation Training Supervisor, you will work to ensure the below duties are completed. The Training Manager may designate additional requirements as required:

  • Assist in the execution of Apprenticeship and Training needs of Regional Operations
  • Assist in developing and implementing various continuous improvement training initiatives/programs for all Substation Apprentice employees.
  • Work with NSPI Safety Team, ensure integration and implementation of all Safety related training initiatives throughout the Substation Apprenticeship.
  • Work with all Regional Operations management teams to ensure the safety of the apprentices throughout the program.
  • Complete safety observations, mentoring and coaching to Substation Apprentices.
  • Assist with Apprentice performance reviews soliciting feedback from Field level Lead Hands and Regional Operations Supervisors
  • Work with Technician Leads across the province to ensure apprentices are completing the required competency-based training.
  • Continue to advance the effectiveness of the Substation Apprenticeship training content.
  • Participate in the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
  • Ensure that apprentices have all the necessary tools, equipment, and trucks to execute their work plan.
  • Conduct substation apprentice evaluations.
  • Assist in the delivery of all safety and training orientations required for new apprentice hires.
  • Support storm restoration efforts.
  • Assist Training Manager, Regional Operations, with any additional training or operational requirements.
  • Review work methods and ensure appropriate methods are followed; provide training and development for team.
  • Develop and monitor effectiveness of the health, safety and environmental program, participate or lead accident/incident investigations as required and initiate corrective action.
  • Leadership, direction, coaching and counselling to team involved in all facets of the execution of protection & control, station maintenance, and emergency response work within the region.
  • Interpret and implement standards, procedures, and work strategies for commissioning, maintaining, or modifying station equipment. Arrange for installation and commissioning as required.
  • You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives in your area.
  • You must be available for rotational supervisory standby.

  • The successful candidate will have a certificate in the Electrical trade and/or a Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology. Completion of a Certificate/Diploma from a previous in house NSPI Electrical Technician program will be considered.
  • Previous supervision of crews or external contractors is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver\'s license.
  • 1-3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in developing and facilitating adult training would be considered an asset.
  • You must have a demonstrated and proven track record for promoting and enforcing safety and environmental awareness.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical theory, including instrumentation and operating characteristics of protection and control and power equipment is required.
  • You must be self-motivated, adaptable to change, and have demonstrated ability in work management optimization and scheduling processes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills is required.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, organizational and leadership capabilities.
  • Good working knowledge of computers, knowledge of the work management and scheduling system, and experience in electrical overhead transmission, distribution, and control systems.
  • Experience in planning operations and dispatching would be an asset.
