TRADE MANAGER, PIPE
Located at 3099 Barrington Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, B3K 5M7, and 35 Micmac Boulevard, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, B3A 4Y8, Irving Shipbuilding has a proud history as Canada's shipbuilder. Irving, Limited group of companies, we have been building quality vessels and fabricated modules for more than 50 years, and our Halifax Shipyard has been at the forefront of Canadian shipbuilding for 130 years.
Since 2012, we have invested more than $400 million in facilities, people, processes, and technology, making Halifax Shipyard one of the most modern and capable shipyards in North America. Over the next 30 years our shipbuilders will construct 20+ modern patrol ships and surface combatants for the Royal Canadian Navy as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy, the largest defence procurement in Canadian history. This year we delivered the second lead Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship, the largest Navy ship built in Canada in 50 years and we're just getting started. The third ship will be delivered in 2022.

Our workforce of over 2,000 will grow to more than 2,800 at peak construction of the Canadian Surface Combatants. Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Trade Manager, Pipe located at the Halifax Shipyard.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. Qualifications:

  • Education required:
    • Completion of relevant College; Technical/Vocational Training or significant leadership experience in manufacturing environment;
  • Experience required:
    • 4+ years relevant production supervisory or management experience in “new build” naval shipbuilding environment;
    • Minimum of 8+ years relevant trades work experience in pipe fitting and fabrication in experience in “new build” naval shipbuilding environment;
    • Leading a team of 5 – 8 supervisors;
  • Experience in a unionized setting;
  • Experience in Manufacturing and/or Heavy Industry;
  • Shipbuilding experience would be an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse workforce;
  • Excellent computer systems skills; MS Office;
  • Customer focused individual with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Energetic self-starter who enjoys working in a fast paced, team oriented environment.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and managerial oversight by monitoring Pipe production processes;
  • Identify and evaluate shipyard production metrics (Norms) and contribute to developing technical solutions for production performance improvement;
  • Constantly propose/request and allocate resources and materials to ensure optimal utilization in order to meet budget requirements;
  • Develop and evaluate pipe supervisors and trades members, to ensure trade skill effectiveness and approved methods;
  • Ensure compliance with all Company Environmental, Health and Safety policies and identify and suggest changes to promote safety awareness;
  • Ensure strict adherence to Company standards and ensure the delivery of trade specific quality procedures and policies;
  • Monitoring and performance managing the workforce/ trades members to ensure quality and productivity;
  • Collaborate directly with Area Management to ensure alignment and that objectives are achieved efficiently.
