PURPOSE OF POSITION



The position of Tool Die Maker/Machinist Apprentice performs assigned tasks and activities in accordance with established production tooling procedures and work instructions. Assists in planning and construction and/or maintenance of ordinary tools, dies, fixtures, and gauges to very close tolerances, or constructs more complex units within the design.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION



The position machines components based on specifications provided on blueprints. The Tool and Die Maker/Machinist Apprentice must consistently evaluate, based on experience, whether the blueprint has provided the best way to meet customer needs. The position will repair dies under guidance of licensed Tool and Die Makers and/or Machinists. Internal contacts include press operators, production and tooling Team Leads, and quality auditors. Interfaces with General maintenance staff in regards to sensor applications and installations. Engineering is contacted in order to get prints changed or updated. There are no external contacts.

The position is responsible for his/her own work but does not supervise others directly. Work completed by the position impacts the department in the short-term.

QUALIFICATIONS



High School Diploma. Enrollment in a post-secondary trades apprenticeship program is required.

The Tool and Die Maker/Machinist Apprentice must have good knowledge of, and be able to use, standard toolroom equipment. These include: drill presses, milling machines, grinders, lathes, overhead cranes, band saws, micrometers, verniers, height gauges. The incumbent must be able to read blueprints and schematics. The position should have some knowledge of the building and repair of progressive and transfer stamping dies. The position must be able to lift at least 50lbs.

The incumbent must have good oral and written communication skills for normal business communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES



1. Assist in repairs production tooling, builds small tools for production, carries out engineering changes on production tooling, builds and repairs fixtures for Quality Control.

2. Performs assigned tasks/activities in accordance with established production tooling procedures and work instructions reporting all discrepancies to the Tool Room Foreman.

3. Follow direction and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

4. Assist Tool & Die Maker with the documentation of production tooling requirements.

5. Learn all aspects of tool room machines (eg. CNC equipment, EDM, Specialty grinding equipment, conventional machines etc.).

6. Responsible for the maintenance of their inspection equipment and small production tools.

7. Ensures part quality is met or exceeded based on Part Print requirements.

8. Preference for frequently changing job environment. Ability to get along well with others.

9. Follows and performs to the instructions as outlined in the Work Area Reference Manual (s) applicable to the department.

10. Follows and performs to the processes and instructions as outlined in the Process House applicable to the department.

11. Compliance to all company HR policies and procedures.

12. Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.

13. Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. Reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and work-related injuries immediately to his/her Manager.

14. Any other job-related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Team Lead and Manager.

Pay: $22.45-$33.18 per hour
