In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Under the direction of the Regional Manager, the Tobacco Enforcement Officer & Reduction Coordinator is responsible for implementing, enforcing and promoting compliance with applicable tobacco related legislation, statutes and regulations, such as the Federal Tobacco Act (TA), the Provincial Tobacco Sales Act (TSA), and other local enactments such as the Capital Regional District Clean Air Bylaw, including prosecutions, monitoring and evaluation of compliance; and for implementing an authority wide tobacco reduction plan that addresses policy, education and program requirements to reduce tobacco use and exposure to second hand smoke in the school aged population and the community as a whole, including monitoring and evaluating community tobacco reduction activities, programs and services of the tobacco reduction plan, including School Based Prevention Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience


Degree in a health related discipline, plus one (1) year recent, related health promotion and regulatory enforcement experience. Knowledge of applicable tobacco related legislation, statutes and regulations, such as the Provincial Tobacco Sales Act (TSA), the Federal Tobacco Act (TA), the Capital Regional District Clean Air Bylaw and/or other Clean Air Bylaws; OR An equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Travel is a requirement of this position and travel arrangements must meet the requirements of the Health Authority.
