Reporting to the Program Manager, CDIP, the Tobacco Enforcement Officer participates in the enforcement process associated with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act within the jurisdiction of the Board of Health in accordance with the provincial laws, regulations, and established standards and protocols. Tobacco enforcement includes regular inspections, investigation of complaints, collection and documentation of evidence, laying charges, legal/prosecution activities, coordination activities with other enforcement agencies and education of premise operators.
Qualifications: EDUCATION
Completion of a two (2) year college diploma in a field of security and law enforcement; OR
Equivalent of education and experience (i.e., some post-secondary courses in law enforcement combined with a minimum of 6-months of municipal by-law enforcement experience)
Qualifications to be designated a Provincial Offenses Officer and maintenance of such designation
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Up to two (2) years of combined previous and on-the-job experience is required
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Good interpersonal and communication skills, conflict resolution skills, and skills in professionally investigating and/or executing charges
Good documentation skills and ability to write clearly and concisely in preparing crown briefs
Ability to deal with complaints in a non-confrontational manner and to remain calm and self-controlled under pressure
Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Internet, email, Excel, databases)
Ability to work independently
Ability to work well with other enforcement staff and agencies, (i.e., Public Health Inspectors, Health Promoters)
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Valid Ontario Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Ability to work flexible hours when necessary
Must comply with the current Ontario Public Health Standards
Adherence to SWPH\xe2\x80\x99s policies and procedures
Immunization Requirements: Provide documentation you have received two (2) doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, plus at least one booster dose, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health\'s policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
