The Eating Disorder's Day Treatment program is seeking a Child and Youth Counsellor's (CYC). The incumbent will be working with adolescents with complex eating disorders and other comorbid mental illness in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, their family and involved community agencies to help them learn about their illness, enhance their independence and coping skills, and develop the tools necessary to prosper within the community through group treatment and individual therapy.
The CYC must have the ability to:
provide evaluation, assessment and therapeutic interventions in a strength-based model of care incorporating modern mental health techniques and the principals of Child and Youth Counseling in a psychiatric setting
fosters a culture of trust, leadership, dependability and accountability in providing a safe, healthy and stimulating environment for adolescents
work as a member of the Inter-professional team, the CYC assists in creating management programs for individuals and groups
Effectively conduct environmental safety scans and be safety conscious at all times
Flexible and creative with solution-focused mindset when discrepancies/changes occur in Day Treatment program
Foster strong therapeutic boundaries
Deliver and Respect program protocols/polices consistently and effectively
Objective and transparent communication with your team
provide life skills training through formalized instructions and assist co-workers in a classroom, group work, family therapy or other on-going therapies. Implement and create evidence-base practise programs geared to the needs of the Youth
use appropriate techniques to diffuse extremes in behavior; manage psychiatric crisis and assess mental status
provide meal support to patients during meal and snack time
suicide risk assessment
Competence in DBT, motivational interviewing, CBT etc.
Experience with sensory and behavioural interventions
Classroom support skills
Some travel may be required
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Child and Youth Worker Diploma.
OACYC membership in good standing.
Certification in First Aid and CPR.
CPR Level HCP (Health Care Provider)
Demonstrated experience working with developmental, physically and emotionally disturbed adolescents.
Preferred knowledge and experience with eating disorders
Preferred knowledge in CBT and/or DBT
Demonstrated knowledge of normal and abnormal development and treatment approaches (i.e. behaviour management).
Demonstrated knowledge of individual, family and group assessment and counseling.
Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric disorders (specifically OCD, and PTSD)
Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
Demonstrated knowledge of Child and Family Services Act, Mental Health, and relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA
Demonstrated working knowledge/experience with computers
Meditech experience preferred
Proven excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral/written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership.
Demonstrated excellent organizational, analytical, prioritization, problem-solving, decision-making, critical thinking and conflict resolution abilities.
Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same
