Job Description

Your Impact:

At Jacobs, we solve the most important problems. We create solutions for the real world - making life simpler and more seamless along the way. We\'re united by the drive to dream big while keeping our feet firmly planted on the ground.

Our Client Deliverables Solutions (CDS) is a team of storytellers, helping our project teams convey the message of the work we do at Jacobs. CDS provides professional editing, writing, graphic design, and document publishing services to enhance our contracted client-facing documents. As a part of our CDS team, you\'ll influence materials ranging from project communications for a highly technical audience to public-facing documents that present technical information in an approachable, understandable way. As a Technical Writer/Editor, you\'ll help develop and deliver everything from short-term local projects to long-term, complex programs that encompass work around the globe. You\'re comfortable interviewing and working with subject matter experts and crafting their stories into content they can then review and round out. From writing to revising for a unified voice, to editing for clarity and consistency, you\'ve got the fundamental skills to make complex content readable and relatable for various audiences. You\'re a self-starter, eager to demonstrate your creative communication solutions, tackling challenges, crushing deadlines, and far exceeding client expectations along the way. Your collaboration with graphic design, document publishing, and production staff will contribute to the success of your team and polish the brand of #OurJacobs.#LI-Remote Here\'s What You\'ll Need:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Experience editing technical (non-IT) or industry-based documents in a professional environment
  • Experience writing content (in collaboration with subject matter experts) for various uses, including award and grant applications, white papers, training modules, video scripts, fact sheets, and brochures
  • Experience combining the contributions of multiple technical authors to create narratives with a unified \xe2\x80\x9cvoice\xe2\x80\x9d
  • Experience managing all aspects of a deliverable program (developing outlines and templates, managing files and version control, establishing and communicating program standards and styles, adhering to budget and schedule, and communicating with project teams and colleagues in various venues)
  • Demonstrated time management skills, to include completing work on time, scaling your approach to suit the project schedule, collaborating with colleagues to balance workload, and relying on standard processes and tools to make your time as efficient as possible.
  • A commitment to providing the best quality work you can in the time provided for the work, to include engaging in quality reviews and implementing feedback
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends when our success depends on you
To be successful in this role, you should be familiar with:
  • Microsoft Office (especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Adobe publishing programs (specifically Acrobat; knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is a plus)
  • Standard editing conventions, such as those in the current edition of The Chicago Manual of Style or the Associated Press Stylebook
  • Grammatical rules, clear and concise writing, and references and citations
