Position: Protection, Gender and Inclusion Technical Specialist

Reports to: Sectoral Integration Lead

Position Term: Full Time

Workplace Type: Remote (Within Canada)

Job Purpose:

The Protection, Gender and Inclusion Technical Specialist will have a matrix reporting relation to the Sectoral Integration Lead and be housed in either the International Programs or Humanitarian Emergency Department while working collaboratively with other Programs & Policy Technical Specialists and teams.

The Protection, Gender and Inclusion Technical Specialist will provide technical leadership for World Vision Canada\'s (WVC) work in Child Protection, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Disability & Inclusion. This position focuses on expanding World Vision Canada\'s programming in Child Protection, SGBV & Inclusion and plays a critical role in developing, growing and supporting World Vision Canada\'s capacity and expertise in the sector.

The Protection, Gender and Inclusion Technical Specialist will strategically develop, direct and manage programs, develop donor relations and secure donor funding and will advocate for appropriate policy with a focus on results-based management. This position represents World Vision Canada internally and externally.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Expand the scope and diversity of WVC\'s resource base in Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion through technical support:

  • Investigate and pursue opportunities to increase the extent and quality of WVC\'s Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion and inclusion programming, in collaboration with field partners and WVC colleagues.
  • Draft concept papers and proposals in participatory process with field partners for presentation to donors.
  • Review Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion related resource acquisition opportunities, including support to donor pre-positioning, grant proposal writing and review, and grant start up and implementation.
  • Strengthen the capacity of all stakeholders through training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Contribute to development of WV National, Regional and global Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion strategies.
  • Develop institutional Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion capacity building strategy driven by donor and field needs in collaboration with other departments.
  • Maintain current knowledge of research findings, standards and guidelines for Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion programming through accessing relevant state-of-the-art approaches, innovations and benchmarks.
  • Coordinate evaluation of Child Protection programming at various levels and coordinate operational research and learning in the sector.
Ensure WVC funded programs and policy influence initiatives are aligned with WVI global technical standards and best practices:
  • Provide technical support to Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion programs in both emergency and development contexts.
  • Provide technical support through Program Support Team to the assessment, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion Technical Approaches and Programs.
  • Liaise with marketing department and program donors, providing program updates and advocating for field partners as appropriate.
Enhance the credibility of WVC\'s sectoral expertise through the establishment of strategic partnerships and alliances:
  • Represent WV\'s work in Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion to external agencies through correspondence, dissemination of assessment findings and lessons learned, and participation in professional conferences and networks.
  • Contribute to thought leadership in the sector through publications, policy discourse and influence.
  • Liaise with other WV entities working in Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion.
Qualifications:
  • Master\'s degree in Child Protection, Gender, Human Rights, Education, Social Work, Sociology, Child Rights or other related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years\' experience developing, leading and managing complex, large scale Child Protection, Disability and Inclusion initiatives especially in international humanitarian settings or fragile contexts.
  • Possesses a broad understanding of global humanitarian issues, and international humanitarian standards for Protection, gender and inclusion in disaster response and programs.
  • Experience in supporting policy influence and development and knowledge of international legal instruments such as: International Bill of Human Rights, UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, including the Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict and Inter-Agency Guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of the IASC Humanitarian Cluster System and understanding of humanitarian system including coordination mechanisms, humanitarian competencies and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize stakeholders into partnerships and alliances, lead and facilitate collaborative processes.
  • Excellent facilitation skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, strong negotiation, diplomacy, strong leadership and teamwork skills.
