About the role Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. We are looking for a Technical Operator to join our Product Splitting Facility (PSF) in Yellowknife. The Technical Operator is responsible for cleaning and sorting diamonds using a range of chemical processes to ensure diamond value is maximized. Working at the Yellowknife Corporate office, you will be responsible for;
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment and look for improvements to equipment or procedures. Also conduct repairs on the equipment when required.
  • Sieve and sort diamonds to facilitate product flow through the PSF, conducting sieve checks to ensure sieving accuracy.
  • Sort diamonds to ensure no non-diamond material is present.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of all tasks.
  • As required, sort diamonds using the Diasort machine, ensuring that diamonds are accurately classified into grainer and carat categories.
  • Assist in valuation processes
  • Work safely and responsibly with a range of acids and caustic.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working area in accordance with established operating standards.
  • Complete assigned monthly maintenance checks
  • Maintain enough chemical inventories to satisfy immediate demands.
  • Acquire competencies in RTDS for both technical cleaning, sorting, and valuation processes
  • Maintain or improve ISO 9001 standard and requirements.
  • Work with mine partners and government representatives during the valuation process.
  • Safety run the neutralizing processes and evaporator
  • Ensure supervisor and superintendent are made aware of any concerns that prevent the regular flow of processing goods.
  • Complete requests for processing non production material for tests, data and process capability.
  • Conducting work within established security standards in regards to handling high value product
  • Work with PSF Security on diamond loss/ OTL
  • Conduct all the above responsibilities in a manner that adheres to established standard operating procedures
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Any laboratory operating experience: experience in the handling and sorting of diamonds is preferred.
  • Grade 12 chemistry and math/physics.
  • Training as a laboratory operator.
  • Working knowledge of a range of common office computer software.
  • An understanding of how to handle hazardous chemicals in a laboratory or production setting.
  • Ability to read manuals & follow SOPs
  • Experience working with people from different cultures and knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North are assets.
