Job Description

Our Client is a unique multiple asset management firm who has a global outreach and investments of approximately $80billion. They are looking for an experienced Hydro Plant Operator to join their team located near the town of Stewart, B.C.

About the Role:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) role where the Hydro Plant Operator is required to be physically present on-site 3 days per week maximum depending on what is required at site amongst the team. It is worth noting that on occasion, there can be extended on-site stay due to bad weather and accommodation is available at site for this instances.

Reporting into the Lead Plant Operator and working alongside another Plant Operator, this is a diverse team with practical skill sets which all work well when maintaining a fully operational hydro facility.

Responsibilities:
Repair minor electrical and mechanical failures as required.
Respond in a timely and safe manner to any incidents that may occur at the facility, troubleshooting issues on a timely basis to reduce downtime.
General vehicle and equipment maintenance i.e., safety equipment, fire extinguishers, tools etc.
Ensure the proper functionality of the plant components (e.g. dams, spillways, intakes, penstocks, and powerhouse systems) to ensure their safe operation.
Operation of plants, starting and stopping units as necessary, and ensuring most optimum use of the water resource (i.e. high availability and optimized peaking).
Supervise, provide for, and assist any contractors hired to do major or minor work at the Projects.
Maintain and organize production reports, procedures, safety plans, training, and maintenance records.
Represent Owner of the Projects to the general public, stakeholders, and affiliated First Nations.
Acquire, track and keep current all safety training, boat safety, First Aid etc. for the team that is required by law, and participate in additional training, as deemed necessary or beneficial to the Projects.
Maintain roadways onsite, including snow removal, brushing, grading and ditching.
Maintain buildings and grounds, including weed control, brush control and landscaping. Identify and promptly mitigate for, document and report any and all safety related issues to the Lead Operator.
 
Requirements:
Background in heavy equipment operation, electrical, mechanical, maintenance or similar preferred
Must be physically fit and able to work.
Hold and maintain a valid driver’s licence and able to show a driver’s abstract that keeps you in good standing.
Sound understanding general maintenance or a willingness to be trained
A passion for the outdoors and ability to utilize a snow mobile in the winter months (as needed).
