Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.The RoleWe are seeking a Systems Assurance Engineer, with a skillset in RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) to join our rapidly growing Rail & Transit Systems Team in Toronto or Vancouver. The candidate will work closely with our Systems Assurance Lead and Systems Integration Leads and the broader Americas Rail & Transit Systems Team on the technical advisory and delivery of transit projects like Ontario Line, TTC Line 2, MBTA, and more. The candidate will report to the Systems Integration Director and be a valued team member within HDR Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Transportation Systems and Operations Department.Main Tasks and ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will apply RAMS processes, and appropriate methods and techniques within projects according to client requirements; applicable Rules, Regulations, and Standards; support the compliance of RAMS processes; gathering and/or establishing RAMS requirements for designs and supporting interface management activities; perform design verifications / studies to confirm RAMS requirements conformance.Additional areas the candidate will be exposed to and may support include:

  • Preparing project security requirements that support the design development process, and contributing to the authorship of deliverables according to program needs;
  • Reviewing and understanding contractual performance RAMS and security requirements;
  • Performing reliability prediction modelling of railway vehicles and wayside systems and apportioning RAM requirements to lower subsystem levels accordingly through the application of various techniques, such as Reliability Block Diagram and Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis;
  • Performing independent \xe2\x80\x98peer review\xe2\x80\x9d reliability calculations and maintenance calculations to verify product design;
  • Defining maintenance and LCC strategy to ensure design reliability and optimize maintenance costs;
  • Reviewing suppliers\xe2\x80\x99 RAMS documentation and addressing non-compliances with the support of the project team;
  • Developing RAMS demonstration plans and FRACAS plans and procedures in cooperation with Project Management and the field teams;
  • Ensure that Systems Assurance/RAMS processes are being followed throughout the project lifecycle by all involved actors;
  • Perform various analyses as described in the EN50126 V-Cycle model or as required by MIL-STD-882.
The position offers scope for personal skill development, especially in relation to increasing of RAMS and security expertise within a rail environment. The candidate will be directly mentored by experts in the field and part of a multi-disciplinary team, exposing the candidate to a wide variety of technical aspects from O&M to Vehicles, Signalling, Wayside Technologies and Civil Infrastructure / Building Systems.QualificationsRequired QualificationsThe individual must be inquisitive and willing to learn about a wide variety of rail systems requirements as part of the team. The candidate should have a technical basis in engineering (from academics and work experience, ideally with professional consulting work experience) and have technical written and oral communication skills as the role will frequently involve collaboration with clients, contractors, and other engineering firms in a rail transit advisory and/or delivery environment. The individual shall be comfortable performing work under the direction/guidance of technical leads who will be distributed across HDR Americas offices. The individual will be required to plan, organize, and coordinate work with groups of professionals and technicians. Past experience with direct client interface and complete project life-cycle (design to commissioning) is an asset.
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering
  • Available to work in Canada immediately without visa sponsorship
  • P.Eng. in Ontario or British Columbia preferred.
  • Candidates who are currently pursuing licensure with clear timelines/instructions for obtaining P.Eng. from the relevant regulatory body may be considered
  • A minimum of 5 years working in a Systems Engineering/Systems Assurance/RAMS environment with preference to those with rail transit experience
  • Experience in the Systems Engineering lifecycle is an asset, including typical tools for requirements development (for example, DOORS) and modeling tools for analysis
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills
