The System Planner will be responsible for CATV-Fibre/design/mapping and the coordination of various project types such as Forced Relocates, Segmentation, Fibre Augmentation, Fibre to the Basement and other required network upgrades as directed by the Outside Plant Engineering Manager. You will demonstrate a "Customer Comes First" approach, from project creation to completion. Please note that background checks are required as a condition of employment. As part of the recruitment process, successful candidates will be required to complete criminal, credit, and driver's license background checks.

What you will be doing:

  • Communicate with internal or external customer to determine scope of project.
  • Plant relocates, Coax cable and/or fiber optic cable route planning & survey of routes for feasibility of construction.
  • Analyse existing network design and determine best options for relieving customer congestion.
  • Plan, design and coordinate projects for Coax and Fiber Network Architecture within Rogers standards and guidelines associated with new service delivery, plant upgrades and rehabilitation activity while ensuring they are technically sound, serviceable, and cost effective.
  • Initiate necessary permits, utility applications and drawings associated with fiber/coax plant installations.
  • Prepare cost estimates, bill of materials and other documentation for associated projects.
  • Maintain and report on project status through project tracking system.
  • Detailed review of Coax Network & Fibre Optic Designs / Powering, Permits for conformance to Rogers specifications and viability of construction.
  • Work co-operatively with other Planners, Construction team and design contractors to ensure a smooth flow of information between groups.
  • Liaise with local utilities, municipalities, and private property owners to ensure the timely completion of projects.
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma in one of the following is preferred: Electronics Technology, Data Communications or Civil Technology, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum 5 years CATV or Telecom industry experience, preferably in Planning and/or Construction.
  • Working knowledge of CSA standards, municipal by-laws, regulatory and utility standards.
  • Clearly demonstrated ability to conceive, analyze, manage, and implement small to medium-scale fibre or coax network design projects.
  • Understanding of coax and fibre optic network architecture
  • Understanding of Construction practices and field knowledge
  • Ability to read and understand civil drawings
  • Proven skills in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of SpatialNET & RPATS would be an asset
  • Self-motivated individual with strong multi-tasking and project management skills, able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent written and communication skills are required.
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver's license with a safe driving record
