As Western Canada\xe2\x80\x99s largest independent rendering company, we are an integral part of a sustainable local food chain. Rendering is a process that creates high value products from materials that would be otherwise sent to landfill or compost. Across our 7 plant locations, we deliver goods by truck, rail and vessel, ship products globally and offer storage, refining and blending services for raw materials. We export 65% of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s canola oil to Asia Pacific markets annually and recycle about 1 billion pounds of raw material every year in Western Canada.

Based at our Vancouver Head Office location, we are searching for a System Administrator. This role will report to the Senior Systems Administrator acting as an integral member of the IT Team. This role will support the IT Asset with a focus on networking, disaster-recovery, and server infrastructure. The System Administrator is responsible for the implementation, configuration, and technical support of L2 and L3 networks, server operating systems, disaster recovery support and testing, and change management. The System Administrator will be able to apply strong problem solving skills in support of all systems within the IT Asset, as well as support the escalation path for all critical business applications and platforms with an eye toward strong cyber security standards and practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies and understands the IT environment as it pertains to business operations, the user community, and cyber security
  • Supports the on-premises network to the edge, and assists with new network implementations and upgrades
  • Assists with upgrades and architecture changes in the environment at the network level, hardware level, application level, and datacenter level
  • Assists in the administration and maintenance of cloud infrastructure including IaaS and SaaS deployments
  • Acts as a technical resource for IT-related projects
  • Contributes maintenance and support documentation
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance to the Help Desk Support Analysts as needed
  • Enhances the overall scope of operations by lending expertise as an experienced and qualified Systems Administrator
  • Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. policies

  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a bachelor\'s degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Experience in programming, record management, network architecture, data management, information security and connectivity solutions, disaster recovery and business continuity technologies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate as a Systems Administrator in one or more environments that utilized a reasonable portion of the following technologies:
Managed switches/routers/firewalls (Juniper, Cisco, Aruba)
Microsoft Azure and Office 365
Virtualization (Microsoft Hyper-V)
Cyber security risk mitigation
Disaster Recovery systems and concepts
Windows Active Directory and related concepts
Linux OS
Two-factor authentication and VPN access
Backup/Recovery/Updates of VMs and related technologies (ex. VEEAM and WSUS)
VPN and remote connectivity
Mobile Device Management (MDM)
  • Proficiency in English, both written and oral, with excellent communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to mitigate potential problems within the infrastructure, as well as a demonstrated ability to determine cause and provide resolution is key
  • Enthusiastic, curious, and team player who exhibits a no-fail attitude and has a proven track record of professional excellence. The position requires excellent communication ability, both written and oral.
