Serving students, staff, faculty and our wider community across all three campuses, the VPFA (Vice President Finance and Administration) leads and develops foundational support services to help achieve SFU\xe2\x80\x99s academic, research and community engagement missions. We deliver SFU\xe2\x80\x99s day-to-day operational and administrative needs through the work of Ancillary Services; Facilities Services; Finance; IT Services; and Safety & Risk Services. The System Administrator is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, deployment and support of the Microsoft Active Directory and Windows infrastructure, whether physical, virtual, or cloud-based. The role provides monitoring, maintenance and support of the Active Directory (AD) and Windows infrastructure management platforms and input on ways to improve stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment. The role serves as a functional and technical expert and provides technical mentorship and guidance to the team, while acting as a subject matter expert and point of contact for external vendors.

Qualifications:

Bachelor\'s Degree in Computer Science or a related field and seven years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory with the skills required to manage, install, upgrade and monitor AD services in an enterprise-level infrastructure.
  • Excellent knowledge of the following Microsoft products: Windows Server versions 2012 R2, 2016 and 2019; Active Directory; Windows Failover Clustering / SQL Server Clustering; Key Management Service (KMS); Remote Desktop Services; Internet Information Services (IIS); Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM); Active Directory Certificate Services; and, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience with VMWare virtualization technologies.
  • Good knowledge of networking concepts including routing, firewalls and load balancers.
  • Good knowledge of Backup and Disaster Recovery solutions.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills relating to AD and Windows Server.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, teamwork, and mentorship skills.
  • Excellent analytical reasoning, problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
