As the Sustainable Development Coordinator, you will contribute to the development, implementation and administration of the corporation\xe2\x80\x99s sustainable development programs. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing environmental impacts of existing operations and conducts analysis to determine opportunities for improvement. You will also ensure the Corporation\xe2\x80\x99s business practices and programs meet or exceed provincial legislation and the organization\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to operating in a sustainable manner.

Responsibilities

  • Work with senior leadership and subject matter experts to create and amend a long-term sustainability plan that integrates the environment with business interests and provides for targets and constant improvement.
  • Prepare budget requests and multi-year projections for planned sustainability initiatives.
  • Lead, coordinate or contribute to a variety of initiatives to further efficiency and environmental goals.
  • Create environmental requirements and scoring methods for inclusion in bid specifications to incorporate sustainability into corporate procurement of goods and services.
  • Coordinate required measuring, monitoring, studies and audits to document and assess the corporation\xe2\x80\x99s environmental performance and maintain all related programs and processes.
  • Coordinate periodic waste audits to determine the effectiveness of waste management strategies.
  • Serve as a resource to various levels of staff and management regarding sustainability issues, monitoring emerging trends, programs and issues and educating others on sustainability topics.
  • Liaise with the other Crowns, the low carbon government office, as well as other government and non-government environmental organizations and experts to understand other\xe2\x80\x99s approaches and anticipate trends across government, business and society towards environmental management.
  • Maintain a strong understanding and interpretation of provincial and federal environmental regulations and targets. Ensure that the corporation is, at a minimum, compliant with all relevant regulations and standards as well as positioning itself for anticipated regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in Science, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years of related experience with developing and integrating sustainable development practices within a large and complex organization.
  • Experience in compiling data needed to determine a large organization\xe2\x80\x99s greenhouse gas inventory.
  • Knowledge of key sustainability issues and how they can be integrated into business to create measurable value.
  • Knowledge of sustainability requirements of local legislation, standards and best practice
  • Analytical skills to critically analyse data to improve quality of deliverables and proposed solutions to clients. Accuracy and attention to detail required.
  • Communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal) with the ability to communicate complex sustainability topics in simple terms, with emphasis on impact. Ability to write reports or recommendations.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, educate and communicate the principles of sustainability and related topics to all levels of organizations.
  • Have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers license.
  • Must be willing to travel to all MPI offices within Manitoba.
