Sustainability and Environment Lead

Accountable for the overall development, execution, and efficacy of the sustainability program in Canada. Oversight and management of environmental related programs (waste, pesticides, spill etc). Develops and validates corporate, government and external stakeholder reporting and recordkeeping documentation including reporting guidelines, software updates/integration.

What you will do:

  • Shapes the North American sustainability program and commitments into a Canadian specific strategy including implementation tactics
  • Provides guidance and support for implementation and execution of sustainability initiatives including goals/metrics and data including proposals to address various environmental concerns including energy use, conservation, reduction of pollution, recycling, building and facility design, and general education on sustainability.
  • Collaborates and facilitates open dialogue with a wide variety of contributors and stakeholders to build partnerships and communities for environmental and sustainability. Identifies and facilitates training as needed.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of, and ensures compliance with, all applicable local, provincial, federal, and internal environmental laws and regulations.
  • Accountable for environmental leadership, expertise, management of functional programs (water, waste air, pesticides to maintain License to Operate.
  • Participates on sustainability and environmental audits at locations as well as maintains responsibility for designated site locations.
  • Proactively manages Bayer\'s Environmental Stewardship portfolio, including Packaging Stewardship and GRI (Global Reporting Initiative).
  • Registers and manages various environmental licenses, product licenses (including Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission license) and permits to ensure regulatory compliance.
Who you are:
  • Minimum BS Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Science or related fields
  • Professional designation, preferred but not required (CRSP, CHSC, CIH, etc.)
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience related to HSE within the agricultural, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, research, healthcare or chemical industry
  • Technical experience and acumen with Provincial and Federal legislation
  • Leadership skills, including ability to influence and communicate at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction; Excellent program/project management skills
  • Ability to learn new software programs, analyze data, and provide actionable insights to management
  • Experience with implementation of ISO-like HSE Management Systems, preferred
  • Demonstrated abilities in problem solving and change management
  • Must possess a valid drivers\' license
  • Willing to travel of up to 25% as required
