Dream is looking for a Director of Sustainability and ESG

This role works across the Dream group of companies, including five publicly traded companies and four private funds, totaling over $24B of assets under management.

What will you do?

In aggregate and inclusive of our development pipeline, the Dream group of companies owns, operates or manages 47.3M SF of industrial GLA, 89.3M SF of commercial/retail GLA, 5.1M SF of office GLA and 28.2M SF of residential GLA. The Dream group of companies is proud of its sustainability goals and track record, including our Net Zero by 2035 Action Plan. In this role, you will be responsible for playing a leadership role and providing technical expertise to our impact, sustainability, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives, including net zero goals, in our developments, owned and managed assets, and internal operations. The ideal candidate will have a highly relevant consultancy background or experience in a similar role at another Real Estate company.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the growing Sustainability and ESG team and cross-function internal working groups to identify, develop and implement opportunities to engage employees in Sustainability and ESG efforts.
  • Lead the various external reporting initiatives, including, but not limited to, our annual Sustainability Report as well as our UNPRI, NZAM and GRESB submissions.
  • Lead and perform collection, organization and assurance of all ESG data, including utility data. This includes GHG mapping, auditing and reporting in accordance with the GHG Protocol.
  • Oversee effective internal control processes surrounding ESG data and reporting metrics. Ensuring reporting metrics are in accordance with reporting standards and frameworks.
  • Support quarterly Board updates on ESG matters and lead controls efforts on ESG data collection and disclosure.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to sustainability team as well as represent Dream on various external associations and working groups.
  • Provide internal advisory services, managing business risks and provide recommendations on strategy and incoming regulatory matters.
  • Develop, in alignment with peers and leading standards, sustainability and ESG KPIs for each entity that will be annually tracked and reported on, and engage with stakeholders to help drive results.
  • Support Dream\xe2\x80\x99s Net Zero by 2035 Action Plan, including strategy development, stakeholder engagement, training, monitoring, tracking and reporting.
  • Lead working groups in the development of ESG policies, positions and action plans across the group of companies.
  • Lead improvements to third party ESG and Impact rating agency scores.
  • Support building certification initiatives (BOMABEST, LEED, WELL H+S etc).
What Qualifications are we looking for?
  • A graduate degree in a relevant field of study (Sustainability, Environment, Climate Change)
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience in Environmental, Sustainability, ESG or Impact sectors.
  • Proven team leader with excellent project management and communications track-record.
  • Commercial real estate/ property management industry experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of emissions reporting standards and frameworks (Greenhouse Gas Protocol), net zero reporting standards (CRREM, SBTi), GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), TCFD (Task Force on Climate related financial) and SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Board)
  • Strong understanding of ESG-related government regulations in Canada, including ISSB
  • Experience with GRESB, UNPRI and NZAM is an asset
  • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholder groups across multiple locations.
  • Previous success in collaborating with multiple stakeholders with varying interests to reach mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills.
  • Global experience is an asset.
  • Some financial analysis skills is an asset.
  • Strategic thinker and agile problem solver, while simultaneously driving a rigorous, data-driven approach to understanding the environment and driving for results.
