We are seeking a talented and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and a deep appreciation for Japanese cuisine. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for creating high-quality sushi dishes that delight our customers while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.
Duties
Estimate amount and costs of supplies and food items
Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
Create new recipes
Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food
Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff
Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions
Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods
Requisition food and kitchen supplies
Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards
Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food
Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods
Train staff in job duties, sanitation and safety procedures
Prepare and present sushi dishes with precision and creativity, ensuring each plate is visually appealing.
Handle food items safely and in accordance with health regulations, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen at all times.
Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely meal preparation and service during busy periods.
Assist in menu development by suggesting new sushi recipes and seasonal ingredients.
Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as necessary to maintain stock.
Train and mentor junior kitchen staff on sushi preparation techniques and food safety practices.
Maintain a positive work environment by fostering teamwork and communication among kitchen staff.
Experience
Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or in a similar role within the food service industry is preferred.
Strong knowledge of food handling, food safety standards, and kitchen operations.
Familiarity with various sushi styles, techniques, and ingredients is essential.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
A passion for cooking and an eagerness to learn new skills in the culinary arts.
