Our Team
Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Learning & Development (L&D) Supervisor (Mine and Surface) to join our L&D Team within our Ontario Operations based in Sudbury, ON. This is a permanent position.

You will lead and manage activities of L&D instructors and peer trainers to maintain training delivery, lead training records, lead achievement of & reporting of technical training KPIs, to meet the needs of the business and the L&D department. The L&D Supervisor will need to be comfortable going underground and have previous leadership experience. The incumbent will take ownership of their portfolio and possess strong data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Build relationships with the client area while becoming a business ally to meet training needs and translating business needs into training needs.
  • Lead the roll out of L&D programs and initiatives to the business.
  • Provide credible learning & development support to meet immediate and future organizational client area training needs.
  • Lead instructors in activities including, compliance to regulations (MLTSD), standardization and professionalism, while mentoring and correcting as required.
  • Manage peer training to ensure quality of training is maintained; adherence to health & safety best practice; effective hand off between peer training & L&D instructors; and sign off of qualified trainees to align with legislative requirements and signing authority requirements.
  • Conduct Shift Line up for L&D Instructors to provide health & safety oversight; review pertinent information such as Supervisor cascades; review hazards; ensure equipment and area availability for training.
  • Lead integration process of new employees from NEO to site induction training to workplace integration and hand over to site operations supervision.
About You

Education:
  • College Diploma in a relevant discipline is required. Civil Engineering or Mine Engineering Diplomas are preferred.
  • Supervisor Common Core certification is preferred
Experience:
  • 3 to 4 years of experience in a related field.
  • L&D leadership experience with strong business & data analytics acumen would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in a mining or heavy industry would be considered an asset.

  • Technical expertise in L&D IT systems including IT and Learning Management Systems like VES (Success Factors) and SAP.
