Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Superintendent, Contracts - VNL to join our Operational Services team in Newfoundland & Labrador.

This permanent position will be based in St. John\xe2\x80\x99s, NL working a Monday to Friday schedule, with regular travel to the Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay Mine Site and Long Harbour Operations as required.

The Superintendent, Contracts - VNL is responsible for leading a team designated to manage all contracts and agreements for Long Harbour & Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay Operations, while ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines, procedures, Vale values, principles and policies is maintained trhoughout the life of the Contracts. The key objective of this role is to minimize the operating and financial risk and the demand for resources for effective and efficient contract execution, working closely with the Procurement team.

Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Provide guidance and leadership on a day-today basis and coordinate activities of the team to ensure priority items are actioned.
  • Maintain Contract Management reports for assigned Contracts.
  • Provide oversight of contract management processes and procedures; develop recommendations to improve procedures and controls to ensure best business practices are implemented by all teams.
  • Be responsible to ensure the successful completion of Contract Pre-Award activities, such as:
  • Providing input to Procurement in developing services sourcing strategies;
  • Supporting preparation of the scope of work and RFP packages, prior to issuance to market;
  • Coordinating and managing the technical evaluation of proposals prior to award;
  • Be responsible for ensuring the execution of the following activities for Active Contracts:
  • Track and monitor Contractor performance against Contract schedule and deliverables;
  • Support the Contracts Owner in assessing the performance of the Contractor, through the use of key performance indicators and audits;
  • Coordinate contract change orders & the pre and post change order work involved;
  • Forecast, plan, and manage contractual services, such as labour and ramp up, according to targets and direction from the project team;
  • Ensure financial controls processes are enforced in accordance with Corporate governance requirements;
  • Invoice attest, validation and approvals ensuring compliance with commercial terms and to facilitate timely payment;
  • Track and report on payment KPIs; take action to improve \xe2\x80\x98on time\xe2\x80\x99 payment statistics;
  • Ensure the timely closeout of Contracts upon the completion of work, including but not limited to, completion of the closeout checklist, release of applicable holdbacks, supporting the close out of purchase order in SAP, and archiving of all final Contractual documentation.
About You

Education:
  • Post-secondary education in a related field of study.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree is preferred.
  • Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) certification is preferred.
Experience:
  • 8-10 years of experience in contracts management with combined leadership experience.
Skills:
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proven experience with entire Contract administration cycle of contracts in excess of $1M million. understanding of key controls and processes.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • SAP experience is an asset.
  • Ability to multitask, change priorities, problem solve, and resolve conflict.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of people to effectively manage assigned accountabilities.
