About Our Opportunity
As a water branch technical support summer student, you will work with professional engineering, science and administrative staff and management in a variety of water and wastewater related programs, including drinking water, wastewater, onsite sewage and surface water quality and quantity program areas. This is the perfect opportunity to jump start your career and gain an understanding of the provincial government\xe2\x80\x99s role in protecting the province\xe2\x80\x99s water resources.
Primary Accountabilities
You will assist staff and management with a wide range of technical support work that will contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Department by:
Conducting technical scans and literature or web based research under the direction of professional staff
Collecting or maintaining data in spreadsheets
Performing field work or site visits under the direction of professional staff
Assisting with file management and digitization of documents, reports and other material
Organizing, filing, and preparing documents
Qualifications and Experience
You must be returning to school in the fall (or in the next applicable semester for the education program) in an environmental technical, or applied science/environmental sciences program As the ideal candidate you:
are efficient with computers including Office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel;
are organized and able to prioritize your work; and
demonstrate excellent communication skills and work well in both independent and team based work environments.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
Working Conditions
Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
Typically located in a comfortable office environment.
Much of the time is spent in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.
Access to a vehicle and a valid drivers license is necessary.

There is one (1) position available based out 1894 Barrington Street, 18th Floor- Halifax.
