SUMMER DAY CAMP TEAM LEAD


Reporting to the Child and Youth Programs Coordinator, this position oversees the planning, coordination, and daily operations of the summer day camp program. Responsibilities include recruiting, training, scheduling support, leading staff meetings, coaching, and evaluating day camp staff.

Qualifications:



Post-secondary education in Education, Child Studies, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, Health and Physical Education, Kinesiology, or equivalent experience.

Must be available for the full term:

May 5 - August 29, 2025

Those candidates with availability to begin part-time hours in April, may have a flexible start date within the month of April. Otherwise, the position runs from May 5 to August 29.

Required training dates: June 20: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, June 21: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, June 22: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

8-hour shifts scheduled between

10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday

Every second Tuesday: Team Lead shift adjusted to 11:30 AM - 7:30 PM to facilitate Day Camp Leader staff meetings.

Minimum two years of experience working with children in day camps, out-of-school care, education, or recreation. Supervisory experience is an asset. Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification. Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (submitted before the camp start date). A receipt must be provided if the application is in process. A previous check is valid if completed within the last six months. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. High Five Certification is an asset. Per grant requirements, candidates must be 30 years of age or younger at the time of grant placement.

Performance Responsibilities:

Administrative Tasks:

Assist Coordinator with staff scheduling. Support the preparation and coordination of facility schedules for all summer camps. Work in Trico's recreation software program and Connect App. Take a lead role researching and booking camp field trips within budget. Monitor supplies and equipment needs. Effectively communicate camp updates and changes to all team members. Collaborate with other camp staff to coordinate special events, theme days, and field trips. Work with the Coordinator to plan staff recognition and appreciation events. Assist Coordinator in writing and delivering final evaluation of leaders. Submit end of season summary report to direct supervisor.


Training and Mentoring Camp Leaders:

Assist Director and Coordinator with Day Camp Leader interviews. Help plan and facilitate leader training (June 20-22). Review leader program plans and give feedback (ensuring activities are safe, engaging, and following policies/procedures). Monitor staff performance throughout the summer (providing positive and constructive feedback). Ensure safety procedures are reviewed by all staff prior to leaving on off-site activities. Plan and attend weekly staff meetings.


Provide Additional Support:

Assist leaders in supporting campers who may need extra assistance due to physical, emotional, and behavioral needs. This could involve helping them participate in activities, introducing support strategies or updating the Inclusion Facilitator. Provide first aid assistance when needed.


Be a positive role model:

Serve as a role model to campers by presenting a supportive/caring/engaged approach and professional appearance. Actively promotes Trico's mission, vision, and values.


Maintain Facilities:

Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of camp facilities. Ensure equipment is properly stored and maintained. Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Coordinator.


Enforce Safety Protocols:

Be a positive and pro-active role model who demonstrates proper use of equipment, adherence to rules during activities, and assisting with replenishment of materials (i.e., collection of first aid kits, first aid/incident forms, laundry, cleaner refill). Follow-up on incidents and codes by providing clear/detailed reports.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:





May be required to lift and move items weighing 30 lbs. or greater Work with cleaning supplies Duties may include field trips, participating in indoor/outdoor sport related activities (including entering the swimming pool) Working in a noisy environment

Work Schedule:





Full-time hours (40-hour work week) will be required and will necessitate flexible hours within the general Trico Centre scope of operations Monday through Friday in keeping with the needs of the department. The weekly work schedule will be developed cooperatively with the Child and Youth Programs Coordinator to effectively accommodate the needs of the position, department, and organization. No overtime hours can be worked as per the Grant Agreement.
