Position Summary:
McGill Summer Academy (MSA) is a four-week summer program, divided into two two-week sessions, that immerses high school students in student life at McGill University and the city of Montreal
We are looking for a Team Leader with a specific focus on supporting Indigenous students who have received an MSA Award. The MSA Awards cover all program costs for Canadian students who identify as Indigenous or Black, or who face financial barriers. Some students may be navigating unique challenges, such as being far from home for the first time or adjusting to a new social and academic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the McGill Summer Academy Supervisor, and working collaboratively with other Team Leaders, the Indigenous Student Support Team Leader will:Support Indigenous MSA Award recipients, ensuring they feel welcome, included, and comfortable throughout the program.
Check in regularly with Award students to discuss their well-being and overall experience.
Identify and address challenges related to mental health, social integration, or cultural adaptation, escalating concerns to the MSA Supervisor when necessary.
Accompany Indigenous students to activities designed to highlight Indigenous perspectives and experiences.
Supervise and mentor MSA Crew Members, supporting them in their interactions with students.
Ensure a safe and positive environment for all students, including during daytime, evening, and overnight activities.
Lead group outings around Montreal and support activity planning.
Plan, coordinate, and oversee activities for MSA students, ensuring a well-structured and enjoyable program.
Other qualifying skills and/or attributes:
We encourage applications from First Nations, Metis, and Inuit candidates, as we recognize the importance of lived experience in supporting Indigenous students. Currently enrolled in a McGill Undergraduate program. Involved in McGill clubs, athletics, and student life. Previous leadership experience. Experience working with youth in an educational, mentorship, or community setting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and provide support. Understanding of challenges Indigenous students may face in new academic or social environments. Experience in student support, mental health awareness, or peer mentorship is an asset. CPR or First Aid Training an asset. Additional language an asset. Must be available for training and program duration:Training dates: June 16-June 19, 2025
