Summer Dance Coordinator \xe2\x80\x93 2023 This position reports to the General Manager and to the Assistant Artistic Director/ Registrar. In addition, you may be asked to assist with additional tasks assigned by the Artistic Director. The Head Counsellor is supervised by, and reports to, the Summer Dance Coordinator. All Counsellors report to the Head Counsellor, but the Summer Dance Coordinator may assign additional duties to specific Counsellors. The Summer Dance Coordinator lives in residence and shares meals with the students at Albert College throughout the duration of the 3-week Summer Dance Intensive. You will act as a mature and responsible role model for counsellors and students. Leading up to the first day of Summer Dance Intensive (SDI), the Summer Dance Coordinator will prepare for the arrival of both the counsellors and students by organizing detailed schedules for students & counsellors (including days off) with assistance from the Head Counsellor. They will also liaise with Albert College custodial and catering staff regarding residence room setup, schedules, meals & food allergies, and other Albert College logistics. This includes putting together counsellor information packages; booking and planning weeknight and weekend activities; assigning rooms to each student and counsellor for residences at Albert College; completing an inventory of equipment & activity supplies available to summer dance; organizing & running the orientation for the counsellors & ensuring that they know all the rules, their responsibilities and the daily schedule; organizing craft & activity boxes for residences & purchasing additional supplies; organizing first aid kits & purchasing additional supplies and moving fans, bedding, craft boxes and first aid kits over to the residence prior to the move-in day. On move-in day and the first day of registration, the Summer Dance Coordinator is required to be present and introduce themselves to parent/guardians and students. They are also required to help move students into residence, show them to their designated rooms, answer any questions that students/parents may have or direct them to a member of QBSC staff to answer the question. The entire residential staff works as a team and is responsible for the well being of all the children. At the conclusion of the Summer Dance program, work with the Head Counsellor to pack up QBSC items in residence and transport them back to QBSC and store them in appropriate places in the visual arts studio. Training will include a detailed orientation with a review of all human resource policies, health & safety policies, social media & photography policies, and a review of all policies associated with COVID-19 preparedness and prevention guidelines for summer camps as may be required by the Province of Ontario and the local health department. Your first aid training course and WHMIS online training course will be paid for by QBSC. DAILY TASKS DURING SUMMER INTENSIVE:
  • When the Summer Dance Intensive begins the Summer Dance Coordinator will lead the counsellors in fulfilling their daily tasks, coordinate logistics for activities & special events including demonstrations and performances and keep everything on schedule.
  • Escort younger students to and from residence, the studios and/or dining facilities, etc., as scheduled. Act as a mature and responsible role model for both the counsellors and students. Ensure counsellors and students wear their nametags. Students are not permitted to enter class without their name tags.
  • Keep Counsellors on task, ensuring they are doing their part to maintain a safe and fun summer dance experience for the students. (i.e. carrying out daily programmes as scheduled; crafts, activities etc.).
  • Ensure that QBSC\xe2\x80\x99s policies including social media & photography policies and COVID health and safety policies are followed by all students and counsellors.
  • Along with the Head Counsellor, supervise students and counsellors in and outside of residence at all times. Exceptions are when students are in dance class and when on a day off.
  • Get to know all students with any apparent or concerning medical and physical problems.
  • Coordinate counsellor schedules to ensure all counsellors have days off and schedule days off for Summer Dance Coordinator and Head Counsellor before the first day of class and throughout the Summer Dance schedule.
  • The Summer Dance Coordinator, Head Counsellor and Counsellors may be permitted to take a limited number of classes with advance permission from Artistic Director/Assistant Artistic Director/Summer Dance Coordinator. No two counsellors can take a class at the same time.
IN RESIDENCE:
  • Oversee and assist counsellors in the completion of scheduled room inspections, as well as monitoring general cleanliness of the residence.
  • Ensure that counsellors are on their designated floor with their students during flat time until \xe2\x80\x98lights out\xe2\x80\x99.
  • Ensure that QBSC\xe2\x80\x99s policies including COVID health and safety policies are followed by all students and counsellors while in residence.
  • Conduct regular walks through the residence checking for problems and mischief.
  • Assist counsellors in making sure students are in and ready for bed at set curfews.
  • Assist with locking up the assigned residence each evening.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES & POLICIES:
  • Under no circumstances, is there to be any staff/student physical contact in matters of discipline. There is also to be no staff/staff physical contact in social or emotional matters. Due to legal implications, staff members must act on an impersonal, yet caring level. Fraternization will not be tolerated between staff and students.
  • Phone calls or visits from outside guests (including boyfriends and girlfriends) will be tolerated on a very limited basis. As the Summer Dance Coordinator, it is up to you to set limits for your counsellors; do not abuse your own rules.
  • Smoking is prohibited. There is no smoking allowed at Albert College or the Quinte Ballet School of Canada.
  • Use of recreational or illegal drugs will NOT be tolerated. Alcohol is NOT permitted on any school property. On your days off, do not return to residence intoxicated. Remember: you are a role model, as well as authority figure- act accordingly.
  • Use of recreational or illegal drugs or alcohol during work hours will be grounds for immediate dismissal.
  • Get a good night rest in order to prevent sickness and fatigue from interfering with your responsibilities. Sleeping on the couches at QBSC or in the residence common room is unacceptable. QBSC will provide a designated spot for counsellors to nap if needed.
