Summer Communications Design Assistant Location: Hybrid work out of the M\xc3\xa9tis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office (Edmonton). Some travel and field work may be required. Closing Date: March 12, 2023 Position Status:Full time (40 hours per week), Summer Student (May \xe2\x80\x93 August) The Organization Since its inception in 1928, the M\xc3\xa9tis Nation of Alberta (MNA) has governed the M\xc3\xa9tis within Alberta. The MNA is led by a democratically elected Provincial Council, comprised of a Provincial President, a Vice-President, and six regional Presidents and Vice-Presidents. This Council works toward the mandate of the MNA, supporting practices of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness for M\xc3\xa9tis Albertans in governments\xe2\x80\x99 policy and decision-making processes. The Opportunity The Provincial Office of the M\xc3\xa9tis Nation of Alberta (MNA) is recruiting a Communications Design Assistant. This is a summer term position with an end date of September 2, 2023. The successful candidate will provide support to the Communications department, including assisting with updates to communication channels, design of promotional materials, photography, and maintaining extensive file databases. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills with digital media. Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Creative Manager, the candidate will:
  • Create design materials using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Take and process images and organize photo library.
  • Organize branded files and signature resources files.
  • Help conceptualize new design materials.
Skills and Competencies We are looking for a creative individual that takes initiative and has knowledge of marketing and communication practices. This position requires a proven level of organization and judgement in order to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives. Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in an everyday working environment. Other skills include:

  • Intermediate to Advanced Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
  • Knowledge of and experience with photography.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of M\xc3\xa9tis culture, people, and values is an asset.
Qualifications
  • Student must be returning to school full time in the fall for 2023/2024 term or be a recent graduate (2022/2023 terms).
  • Some post-secondary education in Graphic Design (education in progress).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • 1-2 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in Communications. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
  • Portfolio sample or link required with application.
Other Requirements
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, on occasion.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License.
