This position engages and builds relationships with the on-campus Indigenous community to help collaborate and support recruitment initiatives.Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Indigenous Enrolment Management, with direction from the Coordinator, Indigenous Recruitment, the Recruiter, Indigenous Students is responsible for the dissemination of information and effective promotion of the University of Alberta to prospective First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis, and Inuit students from across Treaty 6, 7, 8, and the North.Travel within Alberta and overtime is required in this position, which includes driving a University of Alberta fleet vehicle to local and rural recruitment events. The hours of work for this position may be varied, including a requirement to work evenings and weekends.Duties

  • Engages with and is committed to fostering relationships, communication, and collaboration with key Indigenous communities across Treaty 6, 7, 8 and The North, focusing on building strong relationships with Elders, community members and school staff.
  • Assists with the preparation for and execution of special events, including Community Events ,VIP Tours, Indigenous Student Experience at Open House and other special events as required
  • Travels across provincial Treaty jurisdictions in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories targeting select high schools, communities, and special events
  • Responds to prospective student enquiries through phone and email Brainstorms and proposes new and innovative ideas to improve prospective student engagement for the purpose of recruitment and community engagement
  • Maintains a strong and significant working relationship with First People\xe2\x80\x99s House and Indigenous Advisors and Recruiters in Colleges, Faculties and Service Units at the University
  • Holds a seat on the Indigenous Recruiter Circle
Minimum Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor\'s Degree from the University of Alberta; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered; minimum post-secondary diploma
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management and customer service skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and maintain high levels of professionalism
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working closely with Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of the cultural knowledge and perspective required to connect with Aboriginal communities, schools and students, plus knowledge of Treaty 6, 7, and 8 communities is an asset
  • Ability to speak and communicate in any Indigenous language is considered an asset
