The Office of the Registrar (RO) plays a key role in every aspect of the student experience, from recruitment to graduation and beyond. The RO also supports the wider campus community, including faculties, departments, and other units.

Position
The Student Recruiter, Indigenous position will be responsible for helping to strengthen relationships with prospective Indigenous learners, their academic support networks, and their communities while executing recruitment events. This position engages and builds relationships with the on-campus Indigenous community to help collaborate and support recruitment initiatives.
Currently reporting to the Associate Registrar, Enrolment Management, with direction from the Coordinator - Indigenous Recruitment, the Student Recruiter, Indigenous is responsible for the dissemination of information and effective promotion of the University of Alberta to prospective First Nations, Mxc3xa9tis, and Inuit students from across Treaty 6, 7, 8, and the North.
Frequent travel within Alberta and other provinces/territories is required in this position, which includes driving a University of Alberta fleet vehicle to local and rural recruitment events. The hours of work for this position may be varied, including a requirement to work overtime, evenings and weekends.
Duties

  • Frequently travels across provincial Treaty jurisdictions in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories targeting select high schools, communities, and special events to promote the University of Alberta and to recruit prospective Indigenous students via presentations, booth fairs and one-on-one advising. Extensive public speaking is required.
  • Provides on-campus and virtual advising, as well as pre-tour presentations for prospective Indigenous students, parents, and guests touring and visiting North Campus.
  • Fosters relationships, communication, and collaboration with key Indigenous communities across Treaty 6, 7, 8 and northern Canada, focusing on building strong relationships with Elders, community members and school staff.
  • Assists with the preparation and execution of on campus and off campus special events, including in community events, VIP Tours, Indigenous Student Experience at Open House, as required.
  • Responds to prospective student enquiries through phone and email Brainstorms and proposes new and innovative ideas to improve prospective student engagement for the purpose of recruitment and community engagement.
  • Maintains a strong relationship with First People's House and Indigenous Advisors and Recruiters in Colleges, Faculties and Service Units at the University.
  • Participates in recruitment working groups as needed such as the the Indigenous Recruiter Circle.
  • Responds to prospective student inquiries through phone, e-mail, in-person advising, and virtual advising.
  • Assists with research projects, compiles data, and creates evaluations around event effectiveness.
  • Brainstorms and proposes new and innovative ideas to improve prospective student engagement for the purpose of recruitment.
  • Evaluates attended recruitment initiatives by reporting prospective engagement, lead generation, number of publications provided, event attendance, and other meaningful notes describing the purpose and utility of the event for evaluation and future planning purposes.
  • Drives the collection of leads from potential students and monitors their progression throughout the enrolment funnel. Enters data into university systems in order to track potential applicants.
  • Assists prospective students in the application for admission process. Helps to troubleshoot admission challenges to ensure admissibility of the applicant pool. Works with applicants to encourage offer acceptance and yield, ultimately increasing enrolment at the University.
  • Keeps admitted students engaged and continually conveys the value of attending the UofA; plans and implements yield initiatives accordingly.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary Diploma required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Experience presenting to large groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management and customer service skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of professionalism
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License; a 3-year driver's abstract will be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Mxc3xa9tis, or Inuit.
  • Experience working closely within Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the cultural knowledge and perspective required to connect with Indigenous communities, schools and students, plus knowledge of Treaty 6, 7, and 8 communities.
  • Ability to speak and communicate in any Indigenous language.
  • Knowledge of University of Alberta policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; knowledge of PeopleSoft and Slate.
