Your opportunity:

The Student Life Officer (Housing Services) is a key member of the Housing Services team. Working under the general direction of the Team Lead, the incumbent is responsible for communicating accurate, up-to-date information on student housing, including how to secure housing (applying to residence or conducting a search for accommodations off campus) and how to approach and resolve issues that may occur during an on campus or off campus living experience, to individuals and groups having a need for such information (e.g., prospective students, current students, parents, university staff, registrars and admissions officers, etc.). The incumbent further develops the online tools and the advising process for off campus housing services and in consultation with the Director, Assistant Director, and Team Lead, initiates, designs and presents departmental information through information sessions, on-line content, print materials and displays.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Probing for information to establish needs
  • Evaluating learning outcomes for program development
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Disseminating program and/or service information
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two years related experience in a post-secondary environment, including developing learning plans, outlines, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in developing and delivering information sessions is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with web design and publishing platforms such as Wordpress.
  • Familiarity with the Residential Tenancy Act and Toronto\'s rental housing market required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to advise students, to create sound and efficient administrative processes, and to build collaborative working relationships.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and learning outcome frameworks required.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, written, interpersonal, mediation, analytical and public speaking skills required.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
  • Skilled with WordPress, Photoshop or other design programs, StarRez, MyRes, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Hootsuite, survey tools such as Campus Labs, and internet content management applications.
  • Maturity, diplomacy and sensitivity required in working with students, other University staff, parents and landlords.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy, good judgment, diplomacy, flexibility and efficiency under periods or peak pressure and in interactions with students with varying needs and circumstances.
  • Must have the ability towork both independently and within a dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to serve a diverse student body and demonstrated ability to interpret university policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the University of Toronto, its college/residence structure and living in rental housing in Toronto.

USW Pay Band 09 -- $65,407 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $83,646. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
